  1. Hey thanks Wicky. Even bad news is good news when it settles the issue. And sorry I didn't find the obvious answer in the TS guide. I shoulda RTFM'd more closely. The old CM series are by far my fave games OAT, and I've been pining for years now since I upped to OSX. Cheers, M
  2. Hi. Trolled the records and couldn't find a solution. I launch CMBB, I get all the start up windows and sound, but when the game comes up on the screen, I can see the map and get the sound, but the interface panel is blank, and the screen is frozen. No buttons work at all (except "esc" back to OS10), so I can't minimize (as per tech suggestion). Tech suggestion "Turn off Full Screen Anti-aliasing for your video card. This can be done via the video cards display properties panel" sounds interesting, but I can't find the video cards display properties panel". Mac G5, pre-Intel, OS 10.4.10, 1.5GB, 150Gb storage Cinema HD Display ATI Raedon 9600 OS9.2.2 which I just loaded so I could play CMBB Can anyone help? Thanks for your time. michael
  3. Well put CA! A buddy of mine put together a massive PBEM game. It was taking me over an hour to make each move. Never again.
  4. The Cdn 4th Armoured in Normandy was equipped with the Crusader AA which was used often on the front lines. During the closing of the Falaise Gap, they were used as a muscular resupply vehicle as well as direct fire. Here's Major Glen MacDougall, South Alberta Reg't: "Our tanks had a field, day, particularily the Crusaders with the Oerlikons. This is a wicked weapon firing some 450 rpm of 20mm HE with a graze fuse, so that if it touches a twig it will explode and blow a man's arm off".
  5. >Where was your spotter? If he was in a >wheatfield or in the open, my guess would >be that everyone on earth would be able to >see the spotter. Hey, PD, I don't know about you, but I've hid Panthers in wheatfields. I find wheat great (and annoying) for breaking up LOSs. (Good for bread, too) Rifle, I know you're wheatfield story is just an example, but do you know how much wheat will block LOS (assuming both ends of the LOS are on the same elevation)? Not a trick question, I'm really asking.
  6. Ahhh. The plot(ting) thickens! Thanks, Olle
  7. No doubt it's been done before, but I gotta windge about the lack of a Canadian M10. These were standard with the AT units in Cdn armour divs. I mean really. It's hard enough to take out the Mk Vs and VIs and (god forbid) the KT without having to use Sherman Vs. I know, in both God and the Firefly we trust, but its a $ thing. More obscure, but also missing, is the AA Crusader mounted with twin oerlikons (sp?). This nasty bit of business was used very effectiviely Aug18-20 during the not-so-closing of the Falaise Gap. Rant rant windge windge.
  8. For PBEM QBs, I prefer large maps and fewer units (<1000pts). This allows for some serious maneouvering prior to contact so that there's some strategy before the brawl (which is fun too). The only catch to fewer units, is that once you lose that one great AFV (eg Panther) plus a wee bit more, it's all over but for the killing.
  9. T(h)anks, redwolf. I've played some custom e:mail games where there's been so much Allied air that using KTs as shields for FOOs is about all they're good for. (Aside from giving Hurricane pilots something to fill their reticules).
  10. Thanks for the thanks, Viceroy. It recently came very much to notice in some of the DDay scenarios, when, as the allied player, ANY cover will do. Question to redwolf's answer >They can't, no placeable units do, including bunkers and pillboxes. Does this mean that no combat UNIT interferes with LOS. Eg Am I being a fool for getting behind that King Tiger?
  11. Thanks for that info redwolf. Am I getting this straight? If one has LOS to target, a TRP has no effect on "fire density" (or whatever the term is)? >Guns with TRP >LOS: 120m E-W x 50m N-S >Guns without TRP >LOS: 120m E-W x 50m N-S >Mortars with TRP >LOS: 140m E-W x 80m N-S >Mortars without TRP >LOS: 140m E-W x 80m N-S
  12. No RTFM option here. They're not even mentioned in the manual. Question: Do roadblocks afford any a) concealment (LOS obstruction) cover My experience with these things tells me "no", but I'd love to hear from someone else.
  13. Thanks for those! Using an earlier post in another room and your comments, I think I've gleaned two things here. But please correct me if I'm wrong. 1. The quality of the LOS counts. IE a bright blue line will get a better spread than a dark blue line. 2. The accuracy of the weapon is based on actual specs of the weapon. IE the designers have crunched the specs on each weapon ("official" or "real world"?) regarding accuracy and that's reflected here. Another question: If a FOO is in C&C of a leader with an attack modifier, does the accuracy increase?
  14. Does anyone know the factors involved in determining the accuracy of indirect (FOO spotted) arty fire? Eg a) experience level of FOO? type of artillery (including mortars)? c) caliber of arty? d) nationality? e) weather? f) duration of bombardment (adjustment?) g) how "blue" the LOS line is? h) the AI rolling dice i) all of the above j) none of the above I'm asking, 'cause experience isn't giving me any solid data. I''ve had reg and vet FOOS, 150s and 81s, winter and summer, etc, etc. sometimes being bang on (pun intended) and sometimes being all over the map (pun intended). Now, I know one doesn't want the shells all landing in the same holes (how dead is dead), but puhlease, how about in the neighbourhood?
  15. Tanks for that. I shoulda thunk. But it does raise the question about distance. One could here a tank crashing in the woods at 200m, but at a 1000m? 1000m during a barage? 1000m during a barage whilst eating black bread and drippings? But that leads to another question about sound contact. Do you think the AI determines infantry sounds solely on the tread of 9 men or so, OR does it also take into account the hollering that I often hear ("C'mon men!" "Right away, Sarge", etc). If the latter is true, whilst infantry is under the "sneak" command, do they also shut up, therefore are less likely to be heard? Hmmmmmmmmm.
  16. Hmmmmm. Does anyone know if using the "pause" command has any effect on firing duration in the following 60 seconds?
  17. Further to the spotting question... Does this apply to AFVs? Here's an example: A section of infantry sneaks or crawls into scat trees right in the LOS of an enemy unit, say, 200m distant. More than likely the section will not be seen. BUT, what if an AFV, say a Sherman, "moves" into the same area? Does the AI determine that AFVs are ALWAYS seen as soon as they enter a units LOS? OR is determination of "seen" based on silouette? I'm trying to determine if I can basically sneak a tank through some scat trees, or if I should just go for it.
  18. In a recent QB vs AI, I sent a brit rifle squad "fast" into a small building only to discover a german flame unit was already in residence. (Why he didn't zap me en route will always be a mystery). The following turn, in reply to my squads' frantic house to house, the swine flamed me at a range of 5m. The result: oddly, no casualties; but we both broke and ran and the building was set on fire. Are flame units slow to attack targets of opportunity? Are they deliberately suicidal when cornered?
  19. Yo! A friend and I are trying to play the Last Def scen in the Demo and are having some probs. Started on the Mac OK (Axis setup), rec'd on PC OK, but arrives back at Mac as a .txt file which CM doesn't recog. I just want to check to see if mult-platorm e:mail play is possible before I start ripping my and his machines apart. 'Can't wait for the release. Got my visa on stand-by. T(h)anks!
