1. I'd bet my Bob Semple that your friend decompressed the file using Stuffit Expander (the defacto app for that task on the Mac), and he had it set to convert PC text files to Mac files, in the process ruining the PBEM data. Tell him to open Stuffit, head to Prefs, then PC Compatability, and set everything in there to "Never"
2. Not to be rude, but you must have misunderstood my post. Combat Mission will not run in Classic. If I have OS 9 on my HD, it will still be Classic. If I have it on a CD, it will still be Classic. If I have it on a FireWire drive, it will still be Classic. No matter what media I store 9 on, I still have to restart into it to run CM.
3. Howdy, I'm in something of a pickle. I love Combat Mission... and I love the Mac OS X Public Beta. However, as CM doesn't seem to work in Classic (even if it did, no 3D acceleration), I have to restart into Mac OS 9 whenever I need my fix. This is more than a wee bit annoying, especially if I have servers running on X which I can't have going down. Any word on when Combat Mission will be Carbonized? It'll have to happen sooner or later... X will be Apple's main OS by the time CM2 comes out. Thanks, Doc
4. Pah! NetSproket is being dropped because it's single platform, something which even Microsoft's DirectPlay is being widely insulted for. Apple has an opensource alternative already available on all major platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux) called OpenPlay that replaces it. SoundSprocket is being dropped as it is a CPU hog. There's a free, open-source alternative out there, though I forget it's name at the moment. However, it's better, and it's also available for all major platforms. InputSprocket is being dropped because all developers hate it. It's being replaced with a vastly superior, also Apple-made technology called HID (Human Interface Devices, I believe). Things are good. And I want a Cinema Display.
5.
quote:
...and the smoke took away my Tiger's LOS to most of the interesting parts of the battlefield. Sheesh! Still gives me nightmares - I hate that hissing sound. p.

PANTHER, Peter. It's a PANTHER. Yes, I'm a picky bastard.
6. Sgt. Johnston rules! After the Panther arrived and destroyed all of my tanks (quite a story in and of itself, but for another time), I ran a platoon into the forest on the hill by the road where the Panther was having a field day with my infantry in the Valley. After seeing my 76 destroyed at a mere 40 meters away (because the genius driving it advanced up the hill, towards the Panther with his turret pointed BACKWARDS, firing at a MG42), I was feeling hopeless. So I ordered my squads in the woods to close assault... In the first second of the next turn, I hear a terrified scream in German, followed by a sort of "thunk," as a small, black projectile flies from Sgt. Johnston's squad, right into the Panther's flank. WHUMP! Upper Side Hull Penetration. Johnston had fired an RPG! I then went on to completely control the map. Sgt. Johnston survived, and I dedicate this post to him. To those who say the RPG can't do AT work, yer dead wrong.
7. When I rob a bank and get myself a Radeon 256, all of these problems will disappear...
8. Phew! Thanks, guys! *Great* to know it's being worked on. Oh, and the new movie rules.
9. Hi there. I have a Voodoo2 in a 300mhz Beige G3, which always played the Beta demo fine in 800x600. Hell, it plays Unreal Tournament fine in 800x600. BTS, while I understand that high framerates are good, I'd rather take lower framerates and get the MUCH higher clarity that comes from 800x600 as opposed to 640x480. Of course, if you'd like to include an ATI Rage 128 with my CM order, that would save you the coding work. Hint. Hint. PS: Resolution aside, the gold demo fargin' rules. Here's to my platoon headquarters who close-assaulted the Panther which had destroyed 5 Shermans! Other games just don't have cool stuff like that.
10. Heh. Scratch the 404. I must have read the thread several seconds before the file was uploaded
11. That link 404s on me. Also, one question. Older versions of the Mac OS? I have 9.04 (the newest), and I have the following two bugs: 1: Instead of "Axis," the name for German units and their name on the "scoresheet" at the end reads: Apple Grayscale. That's just WEIRD. 2: It seems that the resolution always zooms to 640x480, which is annoying as the beta demo played fine on my Voodoo2 in 800x600. Were these fixed in the new patch? Thanks!
12. YEE-HAW! And I'm getting that little bugger at 65K/sec too!
13. I'll drink to that. I have two real options right now. 1: Gold demo 2: Death Notice that "sleep" appears nowhere on tonight's list.
