  1. And indeed I managed something similar by charging the 251's straight up the paved road on "move fast"!! Tried it twice - firstly going in behind, 2nd time stopping in the town & debussing a platoon into the 2-story buildings by the road. Lost 1 1/2 track each time. As for access - I just use the link MM provides to get to the home page & have learned to navigate from there. IMO it's a pretty simple siyte for al lthe stuff that's there. 2. The answer is probably to play me!! The only game of LD I had was as the German - my opponent ran a platoon & a couple of bazooka's into the wood in front of the wheat field - they cleaned out half my inf & both Stugs, & I resigned on T4!! Mike
  3. Looking at the "Zookshot" (and a fine shot it was!) movie on TGN, how the hell did he get the 2 251's behind the Americans' or is it just one of the playetesters checking out the editor & driving everyone nuts??! Mike
  4. ...we are - nothing better to do on Christmas day than read the board & play CE as the Yanks for the first time!! Mike
  5. As someone says - sh** happens. Last night I had the tiger wipe all 3 M-18's in a straight open-field shoot out at 800 yds - the M-18's didn't get a single hit in 3 turns!! Obviously Wittman was in the Tiger in this game!! Mike
  6. The nice pics of a 105 barrage look like hte fall of shot is quite wide but not very deep. I had always believed that such fire tended to be deeper than wide, ie range was more variable than bearing. Is this not right? Mike
  7. I know the AI for Pz-faust usage has been tweaked - but I just had my first shot of one tonight, and I just gotta tell someone!! Of course it was all vs infantry (!) - one sqaud used both its at an enemy squad 9m away in the same building as it, and 2 other squads in buildings used theirs at a rifle squad about 20m away in a wood over a road. Gosh - I feel like I'm complete now! Mike
  8. According to my trusty (but old) WW2 Fact Files book on AT weapons, the Puppchen was developed to try to overcome the short range of the 'schrek rather than being a precursor. It used a different rocket - same warhead by the look, but longer, and had a 600m range As for the other - I have no idea. The 75 and 105mm RCL's for the paratroopers carried the designation "Leichtgeshutz" or "Ruckstossfrie Kanone", so it aint's one of them. Mike
  9. New Zealand and Australia both celebrate ANZAC day on 25 April. This is the anniversary of the landings on the Gallipoli penninsular that began the infamous campaign of the same name in 1915. The most moving ceremony apparently takes place on the penninsular where the Turks keep the cemetaries in good condition, and welcome their old foes. ANZAC = Australia New Zealand Army Corps. Originally 1 division at Gallipoli (3 Aus Regt's, 1 NZ), later, in France, 5 Divisions (4 Aus, 1 NZ).
  10. Bugger TCP-IP - get me the bloody game! Mike
  11. I confess - yes I'm "in" the SCA - small world huh?! As for "why would you run" with a Pz-schrek or MG? Why, to get somewhere fast of course!! Let's say you have to cross this street, see, and there's some form of enemy at the end shooting at anythign that moves. Now you can just sort of saunter over all care free and Sunday-afternoon-stroll type, or you could try something that will actually get you there alive. IMO a short sprint would be jut the thing. Mike Sorry to here it's not possible now, pleased to hear it's on the list of things to fix.
  12. Hving read this thread I thought about a game I'm playing now - the AI didn't LEAD with hte support weapons, but they were right up front with hte riflemen. Then the riflemen were targeted by my troops, and the support weapons got to move ahead as the riflemen took cover. What was US SOP for a 60mm mortar anyway, adn why are they attached to platoons when they have a min range of 100m and should be well back?? Mike
  13. Italy produced 90 and 102mm AA guns on truck mounts. The 102 had a minimum elevation of +10 deg, so probably isn't much use in CM! However the 90 had -2 min elevation, and fired 15-20 rounds per minute - will CM support ammo trucks feeding guns??!! Thye also made a fully tracked 90mm AT gun - the Semovente da 90/53. I don't know how many they made, but all Italian figure gamer's seem to use heaps of them!! Of course in CM they only get 8 rounds of ammo and will have o tow around a trailer with more, plus possibly a tracked ammo-carrier carrying yet more
  14. Kelly's Heroes, and don't forget the paint shells! Mike
  15. Thanks for the reply Steve, but it doesn't really answer my question, whihc Greg actually articulated better. Basically - how do I know which platoons belong to which company? Also will there be a order-of-battle function so you can look up all your units and go to them from that screen? Ta Mike
  16. The Zug 18t is a BIG weapon system, also the vehicle had small outriggers to improve stability which would have slowed down any rapid movement - perhaps by just enough..... Mike
  17. How do the company commanders work in CE? Are they tied to particular platoons, or do they confer their benefits on any nearby troops regardless of origin? Mike
  18. Andy - I'll probably get kicked off for misuse of the board, but my ISP's mail server is down so I may not get anything from you tonight. Mike
  19. I'm Andy's opponent - and yes I did save the file . IIRC I wanted to watch the replay again for some reason. I guess I could have openend another copy of CM instead of saving, but that's for next time! Thanks for the info Rob - if he beats me now I'll never hear the end of it - how he thrashed Campbell despite not getting all his moves!! Mike
  20. Thanks for the replies guys - but these are not scattered trees - these are HEAVY woods - they're on the Reisberg map - go & see! And yes, I know there's 3 dimensions, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. Ciao Mike
  21. I'm in hte middle of setting up hte Germans vs the AI in Reiseberg, and have noticed a couple of odd things about some lines of sight. Firstly, let's make sure I understand the LOS system - the colour of a LOS indicates how "good" it is - a blue-turquoise LOS = good, and it darkens as it gets worse so black is difficult? Assuming this is the case, then here's the situatoin - I've placed the Px-schreck in front of the village in hte heavy wood to the right of the road (all directions from the German base-line point of view). It's in hte middle of the wood, as close to the village as it can be. It's 17m from the near side of the road, 28m from the far side. The idea is to give it a LOS sideways to the road but hide it from anything further along the road away from the village - a side shot position on a good day. It's LOS is light blue for about 6-7 yards in the wood, but turns black pretty quickly, as you'd expect. If I trace the line to the middle of the road at 90 deg to the road (ie along the back edge of the deployment area) it's black. Now I move the LOS directly up the centre of the road - it suddently turns light blue at 27m (about 30 degrees from the back edge of the set up area). At that angle there's a light blue line for all points outside the heavy wood, but a darker one inside the wood - so it's easier to see through the whole wood than just part of it. The LOS remains good for all areas further away from the village than this until it intersects the smaller wood just in front of the heavy wood. It extends to the far side of the road, but anything further than that stops where the road begins to be higher on hte near side of the road. The 2nd item concerns LOS from the 2 woods to the right of the 2-storied wooden building just inside the village on American side and the right of the road. The LOS from squads inside these woods is pretty bad all-round, as you'd expect, except they can see the various buildings in front of them very easily. Are these "features" of the LOS system, bugs? Ta Mike
  22. Many Squad Leader (& ASL) scenarios would fit CM's scale I think. Mike
  23. Some minor irritants only: P3-500 (128Mb), NVidia Tiva TNT2 Model 64 (32 Mb), and whatever version of DirectX comes with Win 98 recently purchased. 1/ "Marching ants" at left and top borders of screen. 2/ command lines pass underneath top layer of terrain. Nowt else noticed. Cheers Mike
  24. Aww..well it's a bit cruel to go around talking about it hten isn't it??!!
  25. AFAIK this system is close to that used by most nations in WW2. The US used a little more "general support" artillery available to everyone, and the Brits, famously, had a scale of target priorities ("Uncle" targets) that allowed any observer to call in an entire corps' artillery on one target!! However for the scle of CM it's right IMO. Mike
