  1. For what its worth. US AA 20m weapon (towed, or track mouted on an APC) was called in the Viet Nam era a Vulcan. After some modifications renamed an Excaliber. Fire rate of 3,000 RPM HE, AP, TP, and tracer rounds Fired in bursts, rate set by gunner 100rnd bust max. And a 'Low no burst' rate of fire too. A 100 round burst of HE would demolish 3 cars stacked on top of each other leaving no piece larger that 1 sq.ft. AP could penetrate Tanks (So we were told) This is the gun that was mounted in "Puff" in Vietnam. One round per sq. ft., I recall them saying, was "Puffs" delivery rate w/ two Vulcans mounted on the plane. I personally wouldn't want one fireing at me. My experiance was with the Vulcans in the early '70s.
  2. Foxhole I dont know if you count a Stugg, but In LD I had a Stugg in close to some inf picking away at them and some other long rangs targets and they knocked the Stugg out. I'm not sure how, couldnt really tell from the replay, except they were the only thing on the board shooting at the Stugg and the only Bazooka team left alive was over 500 meters away.
  3. Dont know much about this but.. Slowing my video accelerator is what made tha game work for me. I actually have it turned down to 0. Whenever the demo dosent work, it means my accelerator got back on some how and I just go turn it back down. To do this go to start, settings, controll panel, display, settings, advanced properties, performance. Then turn the 'graphics hardwre acceleration' down 'till it works. Hope this does it for you.

  5. I would like to take this oportunity to invite you to bring it here to Maui. Every one can come here to see it. Weathers always good. Beaches are fine. Golf is GREAT and the hard core WWII buffs can take a tour of Pearl Harbor. I'll line up a conference room or whatever you need to show it. Wonder if I could set up a tour of the "Super Computer" they have here? Or anything else that might convince you? (He askes hopefully) Aloha Nick

  7. Bazooka I try to "move" units to bldgs or "run" if they are not getting or likly to get fired upon Then I "crawl" into the bldg., it seems to improve thier chances once in/getting in. But Im a rookie so dont take my word for it.
  8. Good point about finding units How abut a unit index window? open window see list of units, and their status. ie. Wiped out. Click on a surviving unit and it highlights on the screen/map as if youd clicked on it there. Easy to find that panzerchreck unit in a crowd. Just a thought.
  9. Some good ideas on features. I like them all. Does any one know if there will be airports? Maybe not attractive but surely stratigic. Could be fun to fight over.
  10. Thanks for the input regarding Tiger vs Hellcats. I conducted a brief experiment. Tiger and two Stugs in the start box side by side. 2 mortars and the 105 atty next to them. Fire timed so atty and mortar fire arrived w/ Hellcats along w/ Tiger and Stugg fire. No troop movement. held those positione 'till turn 10 when Hellcats arive and replayed it for 10 turns. Range : 950m + - results 3 cats dead 1 Tiger and 1 Stugg OK 4 All axis armor dead 1 Cat OK 2 " 2 Cat OK 1 " 3 Cat OK 2 2 Stugs dead,Tiger Imobile w/3 Cats dead 1 Total 10 About a 50/50 chance of survival for either side engaging toe to toe at 950m. (w/atty and mortar suport for Axis). For what its worth.
  11. Thanks Charles Ive noticed that the Hellcats, for instance, dont have a problem killing the Tiger all the way across the board/map. Thouhgt maybe I needed to get the Tiger closer, but youve dispelled that idea. I apreciate the input. Nick

  13. Im rousted from a deep sleep at 2:30 am. A new strategy for getting those Hellcats has just awakend me. I dash to the puter to test it out. Two hrs latter its turn 12 my Stuggs are knocked out and my Tiger (sigh) is on fire. And the Hellcats are raising havoc with the rest of my forces. Im thinking...the idea wasnt all that bad..mayby a little tweeking in turn 8 and 9? AKKKKKKK I have to start all over meticualsly place all untis again to set up the ambush (two hr minimum). Too bad I couldn't have 'SAVED' the game at turn 5 or 6. Is this a feature I just dont know how to implement? Thanks S
  14. Fionn So your saying the tiger is more effective against a Hellcat if its within 500m. "anything that hits it can kill it" Does this mean that a HMG can kill a Hellcat? anthing else? SMG? I figgerd that if the Hellcats destroyed the Stuggs and Tiger the game was over for Axis since they had nothing left to stop them. Thanks S
  15. Thanks hunt 52 Ive tried to get that effect (w/out knowing what it was called) by using view 1 from all angles. However I'm not sure how effective that is, given the fact that what you SEE in view 1 directly behind (or in front of) a unit dosent correlate with its LOS. So it seems that to actually get a hull down position is rather random luck. I like the hunt idea except that a tank is likely to wander off on/insearch of other targets instead of waiting patiently to ambuch an up comming enemy. Thanks S
  16. Speaking of ranges. Whats the best range for tanks vs tanks? ie Stuggs vs hellcats or Tiger vs Hellcats Would you want to be with in 40m to fight them? or way out there? I cant tell from the demo stats which has more accuracy at long ranges. Thanks S
  17. Again, thanks guys for the response I promise I will be more carefull in the future. BTW what exactly is 'hull down'? how do you get into/out of it? it apears from reading the 'review' that 'hull down' has some atvantages. Thanks S
  18. I have lost some units playing the demo. Mainly vehicles (vehicles stay on the map after being destroyed, unlike troops). Any way, one turn Im giving orders, the next turn their gone. Verry frustrating when your manuvering to try to kill a Hellcat and one of your Stuggs disapears. I will admit that in all instances they were manuvering close to the edge of the map. Could they have driven off the map? If so, are thet retrievable? Or did the AI just lose them? Any insights are apreciatted. Thanks S
  19. In the demo I dwnloaded I only have the Stugs (and a Tiger ) against 3 Hellcats. In the other scenario there are 4 Shermans but Axis have no tanks. I keep reading in the posts here about Stugs vs Shermans. Am I missing a scenario?

Im rinning widdows 95 on a NEC233Mhz pentium. 23MB SDRAM 32 MB internal cache 256KB Pipeline burst cashe 4.3 gig HD 1/3 free Highperformance graphics with 2 MB Video memory I also dnloaded Direct X 7 from microsoft to see if that would fix my Combat mission demo problems Hope this helps Thanks S
  22. Downloaded Combat Mission demo on Netscape Navigator 4.7. (twice: second time trying to resolve problem) When I try to play demo I dont get graphics. Only 3 color (black and green on white background). Black men on green pads.a few green lines. No details Any suggestions on how to rectify this problem are apreciated.
