  1. Personaly I don't need TCP/IP wth CM as I'm not going to stay wired for 10 hours on the phone and pay a huge bill ! PBEM with small files is perfect...and I like to wait for Mattias's monstruous shemes in PBEM games (even if he can't win )) Stephan
  2. So she's finally there too. )))))) Nice job ! maxm2,what about the liquid metal Shermans TX2000 ?? Stef
  3. )))) Hope Sarah Connor not gonna be on the field ! )
  4. I've just downloaded and tried CC4 for a few minutes ('caus I have to work a few...here at work A friend of mine very enthusiastic about the "new CC" was looking with me. What we've seen was a "Rocket Sherman" destroying one after the others all my panzers approaching the US lines (they never had a shoot at the sherman) and this with an impressive accuracy ( it seemed as a "Command & Conquer" with WWII graphism !) I'm not very enlightened in WWII tactic neither in such sherman equipment and have played the game very very fast but IMO the realism of this is very suspect !! The worst...or the best is after I've played "CM", because of the contrast between the 2 games, CC4 seems really a crap in WWII simulation (sorry for Atomic Games but it's like this )...They can't honestly pretend they were aiming WWII realism ! Thank BTS for Combat Mission. The enthusiasm of my friend vanished very fast... 5. Hi there, For everyone who wants to customize the German vehicules with SS divisional markings have a look at http://www.icubed.com/~avgst1/wssdivlist.html the .jpg are of good quality and very easy to insert in the CM vehicles .bmp files. (for beginners as me, e.g. with Photoshop: make the insigna lines more white (bucket tool), select menu --> select color area (the white insigna - tolerance 50%), copy , paste in the vehicle .bmp, menu image --> manual transformation (reduce the size ), save as .bmp (don't forget to backup the original files !!) Does anyone know a good site where the exact positions of the German vehicle markings are showned ?? And good links for US insignas too ??) Now I can decorate my soldiers with the iron cross for their bold actions in "Last defence" (isn't it Mattias ?? ) Cheers, Stephan PS: sorry for my english ! 6. Hi, I've played/tested Last defence more tahn 10 time and with both side and I was astonished of the AI reactions (even if I've got Major Victory most of time...even first time) : Pz driving backward behind trees to take cover, bazookas waiting my Tiger passing away to shoot him in the back, a Stug coming out the road to crash a bazooka team fleeing, ... never saw so a lot of "so human reactions" in any other wargames !! Of course the hidden infantry shoots too early ( but I know it will be tweaked) and computer don't use dirty tricks or is not as cunning as a human being but it's a PC !! It's just in PBEM I've could find out the few drawbacks of the AI for general tactic (my human opponent is of course better than the AI) but AI's quiet perfect for individual troop reactions !!(bazooka shooting in the back,...) Perhaps in some years AI will work as well as HI but 'till then CM is the BEST wargame I've ever played and render at the best combat tactic situations (very close to my training during military duty !! ) long life to BTS !! Stephan
  7. Guachi, I've tried to push the HT, the two Stug and the Tiger up-hill behind the US lines on tour 1 , 2, 3 ( where the Hellcats have to arrive )...the Tiger's reached the crest of the hill without his maingun ; the Stugs and the HT are still burning on the road between the two houses along the road at the entrance of the village (all my troops are scattered). The Tiger must have been lucky ! If you can do better )) Stephan

  11. Hi there !! I'm from Liège in Belgium ( you know...Battle of the Bulge ...as on your PC in some months with CM !! To make some people jealous (he he , I was, 1 week ago, to have a look at the Tiger II wich still lays in La Gleize ( 40Km from my house )It's very impressive...it has received 8 rounds (seems 75mm) in the front and it has just suffered some scratchs !!
  12. Corporal in the 2nd Chasseurs à Pied ( anti-tank light infantry )in the Belgian army during my military duty in 1991...While on my duty in 1991, my government has voted a law canceling the military duty in Belgium from 1992...alas, one year to late
  13. Hi, Just some ideas launched in the pot to,maybe , give some precisions or nuance to topics found in this chat. First I have to say I'm from Belgium ( so sorry for the very bad english you gonna have to undergo ) I think the main factor of the Allied victory is mostly due to their number. My idea is the quality of the soldiers or of the material don't had a lot of weight in the balance at the end of the war , Germany was " out of blood ". Some very general ideas to depict this: 1) Most of the german soldiers were more experienced and more trained for self-initiative than a lot of Allied soldiers (mostly SS). This caused, I think, by the fact that they were making non-stop war since 1939 and so have earned a very good experience ( despite the casualities and the incessant replacement by a lot "greens" who had to learn very fast to face this critical situation). It gonna seems strange to some people but even if the germans are always depicted by Hollywood as "rigid sticks" and US Gi's as "cool chewing-gum eaters" the german discipline (most in the SS) was more turned toward friendship and self-initiative in their training than in any other allied armies or in the Wermacht ( The SS-Wiking leader Felix Steiner book , " Assault troops " is still used as a basic reference for modern infantry tactic in a lot of armies I think...) . Of course this can't be generalized ,some german units were still from the " old school " as were a lot of allied/Axis unites ( The point is also the allied soldiers (mostly US and UK ....French and Belgians were "very old school"),not endoctrinated, no " political soldiers " and not having this " arrogant " attitude were more able to adapt themself to a new kind of situation/combat. ) Germans were more stick to the orders and punishement for no obediance were more expeditive. ! ! It was the paradoxe of the german soldiers : taught to self-initiative and to much discipline/fanatism. ! ! ( All I depict here is the point of view of my grand father who was a Hungarian soldier who had fought ( ? ?) on the eastern-font along with the german troops and was always astonished of the " warrior brotherhood " between german soldiers and officers, brotherhood which didn't exist in traditional conservative Hungarian army). 2)Germany was the spearhead of military technology (first rockets, best tanks,planes,...) in that era but they were so outnumbered/"out of everything" that they couldn't really achieve ,neither product in mass any of their new weapons ( hopefully !). But according again to my grand father and an old waffen-SS soldier, the " legend " of Tiger tank and such stuffs really brought a moral boost to the soldiers ( but when you're back to the wall, you're ready to believe everything). Sure that feeling yourselves like in a ambulant coffin at the command of a Sherman/Pz IV can't help you to get out of a bad situation.( Hopefully they never had 50,000 Panther tanks ! ! !) - About the Russian tactic (yes...I know...it's for CM II….. " On balance I would suggest that the popular conception of the Russians winning by dint of mass and materiel over brainpower is seriously flawed. " It's true and not. We don't have to forget that Stalinien's purge of the Tsar army have killed a lot of competent officers and put instead of them political/un-competent officers ( a lot of intelectual were assasinated too like it also happened in Germany) . Also, old URSS was so a big country that you could find totally opposite minds/education (i.e. about life and dead) between the Ukraine and to the Ural mountains. (Lot of ukrainiens had welcomed the germans as liberator from Stalinism). Again, according to the SS-soldier, he told having fought with such people than him ( young fanatic soldiers), regular soldier and totaly "crazy" soldiers ( mostly from " punishement " regiments...pushed forward by unscrupulous officers ) charging the german lines without weapons ( in fact they could have weapons : the ones they could grab from the germans !) just to consume german ammunitions. (hopefully, something the allied would have never accepted in their war politic !) On the other hand, my grand father never told me about such stories and always was confronted to regulars ! ! ! It's also important to make a difference between western and eastern front as this last one was a real " war of hatred " which made it " seem(??) more cruel than the western side. - Hope I haven't gave any headache ! and I'm sure CM gonna be the game I'm now waiting for 10 years. Keep on the good work ! ! "Make wargames and not war !" Cheers!
