  1. I haven't been on the forum much lately but have been involved with CM for a long time. Now that I have kind of returned to the forum, I am kind of confused about what is going on with the CM2 vs CMII thing. I did a search, and I got results, but they didn't really make me feel certain about what is going on. So, what is CMII, and when does it come about? Before anyone pounces me about asking about dates, I mean relative to everything else. In other words after CM2, 3, and 4 or sometime in-between?
  2. This is a cool thread. Mark I was particularly fascinated by your response. I consider myself coming from a similar place except that I look at wargaming as an exercise in problem solving more than the psychology angle. However, I'm with you on looking at pacifism as an ideal to aspire to. Not only do I feel this way on a moral level but nuclear weapons have made total war obsolete. Most of all though, is the fact that I just consider violence very wrong. I try to control my own violence and I simply will not tolerate physical violence towards myself or those the I love. This feeling thus extends into my feelings about politics.
  3. I've seen the need for a command of this type. I certainly wouldn't want to chase a tank around, but I've seen situations where a tank has infantry on three sides but they're all too far away to assault. Thus you try to get them close enough to take it out (because it's tearing up another unit) using any of the move command. Then, the vehicle moves and the three squads are left standing around accomplishing nothing. This is especially aggravating when your troops have now moved into a vulnerable spot, and even more so when the afore-mentioned tank is the only combat effective unit that your enemy has. Like many other issues discussed I see this as a definite possibility for improvement, but not sure that we've nailed down the best way to improve it.
  4. I hope that the solution takes into account that the command tanks did have radios.
  5. Will the fact that most Soviet Tanks didn't carry radios be simulated? How will this be simulated? My limited imagination down the game design line, can't imagine a way to do this while still sticking with the basic CM structure.
  6. I'm running an STB Vision 128. I am convinced that it is a piece of crap already, so wouldn't surprise me that it is preventing me from using higher res. I don't have the money for an upgrade right now though.
  7. I did get the resolutioins selections thing. Don't remember if it said it was software mode or not. It started at 800x600 and would only go to the smaller resolutions.
  8. I changed my display driver's resolution setting to the next higher. However, when I delete the pref file CM still won't let me go any higher than 800x600. I was under the impression that CM could go to the next setting. Is this impression wrong? If not why am I having a problem?
  9. I killed a Panther with one, great fun. The flame vehicles are totally wicked. Doesn't require as much suppression to get them into position safely.
  10. I'm interested. I do however, if such a thing could support itself. I would definitely pay for a subscription though.
  11. In general I love the operations and think they are probably the funnest part of the game. I have seen a few of the strange things occurring in some of the scenarios as described. It doesn't seem to occur in all the ops though. The biggest problem is there aren't enough of them.
  12. Pham 911, That's the exact sound card I have. That's probably my problem.
  13. Occasionally, my video freezes for a second or so and any sounds replay until the game starts rolling again. I believe this is video card related because the more graphical stuff going on in a scenario the worse it is. The scary part is it also happens when I am entering my PBEM password. So does this just mean that my video card is a wimp. I don't think it's CPU or RAM, I have a Pentium II 400Mhz and 256 Mb.
  14. Do you think we'll mostly be doing canned scenarios or DYO for PBEM?
  15. Sounds cool. Do you think knowing this stuff will improve our game play?
  16. So I can't spell. Say man, it might be because of an error, but right now I'm way ahead of you on the ladder.
  17. Well, Doug if you can't kick my butt until we get the full game, I guess you'll just have to harrass me.
  18. Steve, Are we to understand from the word about the manual, that there are things going on in the game that we couldn't possibly know about just from the demos?
  19. Say guys, don't say such bad things about those early guys, I'm one of them. If I remember correctly I ordered just days before the poster offer expired.
  20. Ah ha, so that means we just check every once and a while, and when our score resets we re-enter. This is going to drastically lower my position. I registered as Moose and my draw with Doug put me at number 2 on the ladder.
  21. Gateway had that driver from way back in 9/98, I recently discovered that that is not the most recent one. Anyhow, my video card is also kind of wimpy for CM. Now I need to decide if I want to upgrade these things or just wait until I can get a new computer
  22. I'm running an Ensoniq Audio PCI. Thus far I haven't found a newer driver. Probably need to do a more extensive search. I'm going to mess with some of those settings right now.
  23. Say folks, I have a little problem with the sound in CM and I think it's because of my dumb sound card, but I want a second opinion on this. When playing CM sometimes a sound will get chopped up and repeat a segment of the sound several times, while this is happening the game freezes. I think this is because the company that made my card got bought out and the driver hasn't been updated since 9/98 and as such is not fully DirectX compatible. Does everybody agree with this assesment?
  24. Extremely happy. I must also say that I don't think that I'll ever be able to play a tactical simulation again that doesn't use at least some of the CM features.
  25. I was just thinking about the "next thing" because I found the forum more interesting when CM was in earlier development and we were learning what it was going to be like and making suggestions etc. Once we learned these things and it became too late for most suggestions, the way I see it, that's when the number of interesting topics decreased and the number of flame wars increased. Therefore, I was thinking that CM2 development would make the forum as interesting as it previously was. As far as actually playing the game, I think CM will keep me satisfied for probably around 3 years or better. I played SP fairly faithfully for over 1 and a half years and CM is much better. I spend a lot of time on this forum and enjoy it, but it's not the highlight of my day it once was. This is partly because the rest of my life has gotten more exciting, including the fact that I can actually play CM now, but also because the forum isn't quite as interesting as it used to be.
