  1. If it really helps people that much, I could help out with the upgrade to CMBB...I use W2K and not XP, though. What's the problem you're having using it with XP now? Onnel
  2. But using a "cd-cracked" version of the .exe might work. Unfortunately, those are mostly used by pirates, but they have good uses for situations like this as well. My guess is that once a cd-cracked US .exe is released by the pirates, we'll be able to use it as well. Piracy sucks, but in this case we can at least make use of the useful byproduct. Onnel
  3. Then again, for those of us with the CDV version, it might be able to work if some friendly soul was simply to zip up the original .exe for a non-CDV version. I'm not advocating piracy, but if we've already bought the game, it seems reasonable that we should be able to choose which .exe we'd like to use. If anyone wants to volunteer to send it to me via email/ftp/http, I'd be glad to test whether the battlefront .exe works with the CDV version... 4. It may not matter for *you*, but it's aufully wierd playing the German version and having to hit "A" for Vorruecken. I'm assuming it's assult in english, but it is in NO way intuitive in German. Same goes for"F" for Schnell, "T" for Zielen, and "H" for Verstecken (among others). I agree it's not a big priority, but remapping would DEFINITELy help those of us notp laying in english. Onnel
  5. I feel for you guys...I bought CMBB today in the freaking department store (Here in munich, of course). CDV treats us right here in germany...wish they did the same for you lads. If you can handle German, I'd be glad to go and buy a bunch and ship them over to the UK. Onnel
  6. Totally agree that you shoudl read it so you know what they *think* they're entitled to do/limit you to and what they plan to do. Just don't expect yourself to be 100% legally bound by the click through. Onnel
  7. As if the user agreement were actually legal in most countries. Mind oyu hacking the .exe might violate the DMCA if you live in the U.S., but for most "civilised" countries it's not an issue. Not that it's worth doing, in any case, but don't let click through agreements on software worry you. Onnel P.S. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble or how well it would be possible to make it to work in CM in any case. They choose to make a game that is mostly non-moddable (actually just very, very difficult to mod) for their own reasons which have been discussed to death already.
  8. Maybe it's because I generally play against the same opponents (though I met them all through this forum), but if I feel like a game is beyond my winning (or I guess if it simply didn't interest me), I'd let the opponent know and we could reach a decision to just toss it and start a new one, or to hammer it out a bit farther if my opponent had a really keen interest to. If a game isn't interesting you, let your opponent know so you can both start something that intersts both of you. as with most things, communication is the key! Best, Onnel
  9. Right on the first try...Schwerpunkt it is! Best, Onnel
  10. The better the headphones, the better the quality of the sound, but as lnog as it sounds alright to you, it's OK! Make sure you're not plugging the headphones into the cd player in front...plugging them in there only gets sound from the cd player (like a music cd). You want to plug them into your sound card in back (where your speakers plug in). FYI, it is generally acknowledged that the highest quality 3D sound comes from using headphones and not speakers, so no need to be ashamed! Best, Onnel
  11. It's worth remembering that part of what makes TCP/IP more complicated is thati t own't simply be PBEM while the other guy waits (as fred indicated). Instead, BOTH people will be issuing their orders simulatenously and watching the film simulatenously..cutting out a lot of the dead time. As I understand it (and I may be wrong), there will also be the option of timers for turns, so you could allow a max of 5 minutes (or whatever you choose) for both players to give their orders per turn. Many may not like or use the timers, but it's worth remembering that timed chess is a popular competition game, as is non-timed chess. Just because you prefer one to the other does not mean that there is no benefit to the other or that others have no interest in it. I for one am very much looking forward to playing TCP/IP on our LAN...it would be even better if they allowed multiple players per side..something to hope for in later installments! Onnel
  12. Hah, I'd love to see you carry more than about 6 bren mags on you. If you're cheating and storing them in your small pack, then your sgt. will surely curse you for leaving your mess tin and rain cloack behind! Actually, I was wondering, did an American squad operate like a Brtish one in that EVERYONE in the squad carries ammo for the support weapon, or did they usually just have an 'A' gunner assigned and none of the rest of the squad was burdened? To give this reply some link to the question at hand, I would personally love to see a roster implemented for ease of troop management...I can barely bring myself to play a REALLY large scenario because of the hassle of searching for each individual unit when all I want is a status overview of my troops... 13. Don't ask me how I missed that...ack! Map completed and shipped off for camapign use! Thanks! Onnel
  14. Anyone know how victory flag placement is determined when you create a scenario? Can they be moved? I'm working on my maps for the campaign, and my victory flags are all stuck up in a corner. I need to know if this is a problem (it's not if they can be changed in the editor), and if they cannot be manually moved, what should I do to maximize the chances of reasonable placement? I searched and searched, but found nothing...which doesn't mean this hasn't already been addressed! Thanks! Onnel
  15. If on the other hand, he is talking about mods so he can customize his single player (or even multiplayer when all are in agreement) experience to better fit with his conception of the realities of WW2 combat, then more power to him. I do think (and i know this has been argued before, so we can all agree to disagree) that one of the few things that could have been done better with the game (and there aren't many!) is if it had been customizable...let us edit at least some of the basics and if people really want to get in depth and start changing armor values and weapon penetrations, then mkore power to them! Not everyone agrees on the effectiveness of equipment or its functionality in the real world...it would be great if users could modify it to fit their views (much as different users have done with the close combat games...god knows those needed a lot more help than CM ever will, though). Again, I know it's been hashed out before, but I stand firmly in the camp of those who want user modifiable data and not just images...it's such a huge plus for the game community. There are easy ways to prevent the modifying effecting multiplayer games without their agreement (though in my mind the best way is to only play with people you trust in any case, as they'll always find a way to cheat).
