  1. "A nest of those doing flank protection sure will give any American fast vehicle incursion a good challenge." Andy, no, that's exactly the point about the T-8, a 2cm FlaK nest does NOT help **** against the T-8, as they are rather well armored. Even the fabulous 3,7cm FlaK has it's problems with that li'l bugger. [This message has not been edited yet. Sorry. (not edited 08-27-2000).]
  2. Jason/guachi, not sure what you mean. really. as for the japanese tanks, I am not even aware that there would be other names known for their tanks than the (admitedly transcribed) japanese names, HA-GO, CHI-HA and what not... I think that evil equipment should be named by it's original evil name, in evilese, so that any casual observer is not mistaken about it's evil nature. In return, I will not call those frickin' canuck APCs "Känguruhs" either, deal? [This message was almost edited by an accidentally passing-by diarrhoea bacterium (almost edited 08-27-2000).]
  3. man, you should change your nick to "ARGH!" because that's more fitting... as regards motorcycle's usage, they were used mostly for LIASION. besides, the allies had motorcycles as well. as regards your post itself, one word : S E A R C H in this case it would have already helped to take a look at the current topics with your EYES OPEN (greatly facilitates READING) before starting another silly thread on this silly, hamster-free and therefore superfluous topic. 4. I like PEPSI<font size=-2>TM</font> Cola Infantry, in fact, PEPSI LIGHT<font size=-2>TM</font> Infantry, because Light Infantry knows what it's all about, they don't get obnese as easily as the mechanized types, and they are not sticky when you spill them in your car. I don't like COCA-COLA<font size=-2>TM </font>Infantry, because I am always with the underdog, aka "evil".
  5. Am I the only one to see a problem with the meeting engagement scenario type no, the fact that a ME will result in such a tactic is obvious, and there were already several threads about this, where someone thought that in this (non-)discovery he had found the "ultimate gamey tactic" http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/009366.html http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/009147.html [This message has been edited by an alien abductor (edited 08-27-2000).] [This message has been edited by M Hofbauer (edited 08-27-2000).]
  6. christoph - you're kidding, right? I mean, that was a joke, right, you're not serious, eh? (IF NOT: that 77mm is just symbolic, it had the same caliber as the 17pdr/76mm, so in order to make life easier for the supply guys etc. (and to make life harder on semi-enlightened postwar historians) they CALLED it the 77mm .... )
  7. jc, do you know a bit about british ranks? because, I am insearch of someone who does for the rankpage. I have found people to ask things etc. for every army from Bulgaria to chinese, but I couldn't find anyone familiar with the british. besides that, I think your points 1 and 2, however well and justified they might or might not be, will simply not be addressed in a patch. when BTS intentionally kept the ranks as tzhey are now, I don't think they will change it now, even if they could; you see, this had been discussed before. as regards point 3, I think you and David are partly wrong. the germans in the ending stages of ww 2 _DID_ put conscripts in about every imaginable position. there were instances where fighter aircraft pilots received as much (or as little) as 6 hours of ground instruction as their training, and their first flight with the Me would be their first combat sortie. similarly, the large bodies of hitlerjugend were directly used for the He-162 program, they didn't even start to sort out for talent to fly; i admit though that the he-162 program did not realize before the surrender. similarly, paratroop units were often not beter than other units towards the end of the war where every kind of recruits, maintenance personnel, etc. were put in uniform, and some of these were paratrooper uniforms. the usual practice of having paratroopers jump-qualify at that time had been abandoned for almost quite some time already, for obvious reasons. just my 2 turkish lira, M.Hofbauer
  8. DEF, you can send em on over to me again to me if you need hosting.
  9. DevilDog, click "search" enter keywords "entire" & "movie"
  10. jonp, if Kestrel's little hint at the concept of FOG OF WAR doesn't ring a bell, imagine yourself sittting in a trench, or standing in the open hatch of your tank, hyped up on adrenaline, small arms fire going on everywhere, there might be an enemy coming at you from the bush in front of you - or the bushes in your back. you see only very little. you hear the droning of your own armor's engines. but then - there is an additional, strange sound. hardly perceptible, but there's something there. yes, that rustling somewhere, and those german voices. or, engines of vehicles. souinds liek a heavy tank. faint to hear over all the other sounds but yes there is something there. but where? was that in front of you, or behind you? just how close was it? (edited for horrible typos) [This message has been edited by M Hofbauer (edited 08-27-2000).]
  11. thanks chrisl, but really I don'tneed tosee it - my experiences with the T-8 have gotten to a point where pne of my PBEM opponents will call any use of T-8 gamey, even though I make sure I never use more of 2 of those. They race around the enemy rear like crazy, ripping up every thin-skined armor until they run out of ammo, and then they are luring Panzerschrecks into firing which will only miss and reveal their position; or when you place a Bazooka on them, which btw looks dastardly funny , you have a AT weapon that when used in pairs can take out any isolated german heavy armor by zooming around it, making it buttton up with the 50cal, and placing a pair of zooks at it's ass (this is all 1.03). ok, it is NOT a wonder weapon, but I agree with you it can be very effective, it can create hell of an annoyance for the opponent (or yourself depending on who is evil *g*) and considering it'sprice and the fact that only very very few of these were actually built their use can easily be viewed as gamey.
  12. A Tiger is clearly a tank and a halftrack is a support AFV, but there is a grey area between "armor" and "support" into which many vehicles fall. Namely the Lynx, the Puma, the Wasp, and the T-8; the Rams. The Stuart is obviously a tank , albeit a light one. Still it's 37mm is more than enough for most engagements, and the combat value of the Stuart is correctly represented in the points value of this vehicle which costs as much as a sherman. The Luchs (btw people it's LUCHS not Lynx, it is only Lynx when translated into english; you're not saying Rhino for the Nashorn, either) is a very light tank derived from the original Pz II, arguably a tank. The T-8 is the questionable Stuart conversion with the turret removed. Still, it can be compared to the Luchs in so far as it is a recon version of a tank. The Puma is yet another recon vehicle that is by all definitions a light tank except the fact that it is wheeled. The Wasp flamer is a conversion from the Bren carrier. Even the Bren machine gun carrier itself could be seen as a light tank in the class of the early Pz I, however you might as well classify it as a transport vehicle modified to carry a MG. The Wasp has a flamethrower instead of a machine gun much like the Flammhetzer has a flamer in place of the main gun. Main difference: the wasp can be bought without infringing on the precious armor budget. Lastly, the Ram. Shermans w/o their turrets. They still retain the considerable hull armor of the basic sherman, so you have a turretless tank, yet again this vehicle can be bought using cheap support points. I think the decision to put a certain vehicle into one category or another is one where there isn't only one coreect solution; BTS decided to do it as they felt correct, and overall their decision seems sound.
  13. wasn't the Matchbox 1:76 Firefly a IIC ? I am serious, they usually researched the vehicles pretty well, and on the old boxes they would tell you exactly what unit, time and location the model depicted is from.
  14. yes, there were several demos. the only one I had was the beta demo which included the Last Defense (late 45, americans attack) and the Riesberg (germans attack) scenarios. there is also a so-called GOLD demo which has the *.exe on the gold level and includes a scenario called "valley of death" or something but I can't describe it since I immediately jumped to... ...the full game I suggest you simply do the same since I am sure you will not be disappointed.
  15. careful Bastables and everybody else. if you continue like this you're gonna crack him up.
  16. not fair, :USERNAME:, to stab at Fionn when he's got his hands bound.
  17. have him take the germans!! (sorry couldn't resist) but seriously, this won't work, because obviously Doc will not take the german side, and if you play the german side, you're an evil neohamster, and he won't play with you! a paradoxon!
  18. DEF BUNGIS, email it to me and it will be up for everyone to see in no time hofbauer@gmx.li
  19. oh, I see, you're a baptist? "everything is ok as long as I feel bad about it afterwards and behave"? man, I hear this stuff from defendants all the time. "I didn't want to kill him, when I pulled the trigger my thoughts were 'he might be injured but I sure hope and am certain he won't die from it' and I'm soooo sorry about it now." however, I chose to remove some of the offensive words from the last post because it was probably bad form and to show you the good will that sometimes can be found even in evil people like me.
  20. EVERYBODY BE MORE CAREFUL!!!!!! (sorry Madmatt had to borrow those) first of all, it seems Dr. Brian, who has an amazing ability to show himself in an unfavorable light, needs to be more careful: Dr. Brian (posted 08-25-2000 08:22 AM): Some of you guys crack me up. Dr. Brian (posted 08-26-2000 02:26 PM): "you guys crack me up" look at yourself, man, you're all cracked up! Since nobody here touched you, pointing the fingers at us to make us the culprits for your cracked-up status is probably just to cover you self-infliced (autoaggressiveness?) skull fractures... besides, you are repeating yourself. constant monotone repeating of phrases such as "you guys crack me up" is a sure sign that indeed there might be a crack somewhere. You should seek proffessional help about your autoaggressiveness and monotonous repeating of phrases... besides, don't pufferfish and run around with your victim sign like that. It is a sad fact if your family like so many others suffered under the third reich, but you are not doing these victims a good service by misusing their suffering for your personal grudges, victimizing yourself to such a degree. I do not believe that all your living days are darkened by the german shadow because a distant relative that you never got to know was killed. Don't misunderstand me, of course that was a wrong, "everybody has only one life and nobody may take it away", and of course I am sorry about it. But it would be the same as if my grampa would say "remember Aunt Gretchen? well of course you don't she died decades before you were born...well you know her life and that of her three children were ruined when an american gift of 454kg of steel and TNT crashed through their rooftop onto their breakfast table" and then I'ld be going out "yeah those bastard amis they were all evil, strafing farmers on the land with their fighter-bombers, incinerating cities fill of refugees etc pp, I ought to go onto the internet and tell everbody what an evil people those degenerated amis are..." They recently once again ran a docu here, not one of these "amazing discoveries" Discovery channel documentaries, but a really well researched one, about the eastern front, very very interesting, they interviewed both former german and russian participants, including SS and NKVD, and they openly spoke about all the atrocities both sides committed. One of the most tragic things was the case of a small village caught in the conflict between the worst units of both warring nations, they were terrorized by the russian partisans/bandits and the german security rear area troops. Her sister's husband was killed by the germans (when they leveled the village to eradicate partisan activity, he refused to leave the house that was being demolished), her sister herself was killed by the partisans when they raided the village for food ETC. One german mech Infantryman told how in a battle he shot a group of russians with his submachinegun because they hunkered down and wouldn't raise their hands when he challenged them to do so. One NKVD related how he shot civilians simply because they wanted to leave Moscow. Or the story of one NKVD woman who killed german POWs. The basic, common ongoing statement of all of these people, the SS, the NKVD, the common german soldier, the terrorized civilians, was, that it is hard to understand today, but those were the times. They all, actors and victims, looked like perfectly normal people, the nice grampa from the parkbench etc., not surprising because all these people recruit themselves from the mass of normal people that make up socitey. The victinms in that docu who really sufered heavily themselves seemed to hold less of a grudge towards those responsible for their suffering than you do, for some remote however injust act that never affected you up close personally. I am sure everybody can point to a relative who has been killed, raped, maimed etc. sometime back in history by someone else. ok, enough of that... NOW, for the rest of you, you better behave and be careful; don't make any posts that our Professor might find offensive. Otherwise....(Dr. Brian; posted 08-25-2000 09:59 AM) "If not, I will contact Steve"! so you better behave! [This message has been edited by M Hofbauer (edited 08-26-2000).]
