1. Dear MajorH, I've been playing around a bit with the German units last week, and noticed that in TacOps a Marder with a Milan team on board obviously can’t use the Milan while the team is loaded. In reality however, the Milan launcher can be mounted on the commanders hatch and is then operated by the tank commander. I noticed in the “Bring in the brits” thread, that you consider the Milan to be too delicate a system to be moved around mounted on a vehicle. I can agree with this, but the launcher can be mounted quite fast once the vehicle has stopped (or moves slowly/on smooth terrain). The procedure is as follows: Open commanders hatch and hatch in troop compartment behind commanders hatch. Guy in troop compartment hands launcher to commander. Commander mounts launcher. Guy in troop compartment hands missile to commander, closes hatch. Commander loads missile and is ready to fire. This might sound a bit awkward, but I have seen it done in about 10..15 seconds. (OK, this was for a show, so in real life it might take a little bit longer. ) So I would like the Marders in TacOps to be able to fire a Milan if a Milan team is on board, potentially only after being stationary for a certain amount of time. p.s.: Yes I know that I’m asking for much (esp. the delayed readiness), so I could understand if this request would end up way down on the bottom of the wish list. But it would be nice, if you could implement this behaviour in some future version. [ July 19, 2004, 08:21 AM: Message edited by: Lutz ]
2. Probably not under good light conditions, but under adverse conditions it might look like in the video clip: "Hey Sarge, there is something in the woods over there." "Where? Ah there. Dammed rain. Hmmm, can't make out what it is. These crappy binoculars keep fogging up. It can't be one of ours, so let's better blast it away. ... Ah, no, wait, it has a red cross on it. Private, call the HQ on the radio, and tell them there is probably an enemy casualty station at position XY." <KABOOM> "..." (dead silence) Well, I guess that would be called "Fog of war" then. Thanks for the replies. p.s.:
3. Sorry to sort of hijack this thread, but I've noticed something odd in the first of those video clips ("Fire Mission"). Is that a red cross on the M109A(whatever) Self Propelled Howitzer??? If yes, what is it doing there? If no, why is a symbol that can be mistaken for a red cross painted on a weapon system?
4. Comes in, looks in the fridge, is slightly disappointed, ads "mousse au chocolat" to the list on the fridge door. Wants to leave but discovers a bottle of 16yr old Lagavulin. Places a comfy chair near the fireplace, pours himself a glass, ads just a little bit of water, stares at the flames, starts dreaming...
5. This is so unfair. We Mac Users here in Germany are left behind again. Instead of being able to order from the fine folks at CDV, we have to order from the greedy guys at Battlefront who don't want to let the distributors get their fair share. No wonder they have to resort to selling crack and other such stuff to earn a living. BTS please fix or do somefink!

Maps

If you are looking for a topographic map, you might be interested in the TOP 200 CD-ROM. It contains the official topographic maps of all of Germany in 1:200000 (resolution 100 lines/cm). It has an ISBN, so any good bookstore should be able to order it for you: ISBN 3-88648-055-0. The price is 67,30 DM. Hope this helps,
7. IceBook with 64 MB RAM (but 256 MB more are on the way).
8. I think the fix for this problem can be found in TacOps. There you can give your units orders for Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). These SOP tell the troops what to do when they get in contact with the enemy. For example you can give orders like "Reverse if fired on xxx m & Pop smoke" or "Stop after firing". Oh man, there you have me dreaming of a CMBO/TacOps combination again...
9. From FM 7-7J MECHANIZED INFANTRY PLATOON AND SQUAD, Appendix B: (Found at the Dennis J. Reimer Training and Doctrine Digital Library )
quote:
(BRADLEY)1) M242 25-mm gun. The 25-mm gun has three rates of fire--single shot, low rate, and high rate. It accurately delivers both armor-piercing and high-explosive rounds. The 25-mm gun using APDS-T rounds can destroy lightly armored vehicles (BMP, BTR, BRDM). Using HEI-T rounds, it can destroy unarmored vehicles (trucks, jeeps) and suppress enemy troops in the open, in built-up areas, or in dug-in positions. (a) The 25-mm APDS-T round can penetrate lightly armored vehicles. Flank shots increase the probability of penetration. Maximum effective range/tracer burnout is about 1,700 meters, but effective fire using sabot rounds can be achieved by using burst-on-target techniques if impact of the round can be observed. ( The 25-mm APFSDS-T is a fixed-type, percussion primed round. It consists of a sabot encapsulated projectile crimped to a steel cartridge case. Basic operation of this kinetic energy round is the same as APDS-T with an increase in velocity to about 1,420 meters per second. This round has increased penetration capabilities as well as tracer burn time, which allows engagement of targets at longer ranges and with greater potential to defeat a BMP-2. © The HEI-T is excellent for suppressing antitank guided missile crews and crew-served weapons out to 3,000 meters. Tracer burnout is 2,000 meters, but effective fire can be placed on targets at further ranges if impact of the round can be observed. HEI-T has a 5-meter bursting radius that enables this ammunition to be used in both point and area target engagements. (d) The BFV can carry onboard 900 rounds of 25-mm ammunition; only 300 can be loaded in the 25-mm ammunition cans. Uploading the weapons system for the 25-mm takes about 15 minutes. All leaders and gunners must be aware of the operational impact of using all of the ammunition in the ammunition cans. As ammunition is fired, 15-round belts can be linked and loaded in the two ammunition cans in just minutes. If all ammunition is used, reloading takes 12 minutes because the new ammunition must be fed directly into the gun. This is difficult to do while the vehicle is moving.

So depending on the type of ammunition the maximum effective range is about 3000 m. The maximum range however will be considerably higher. So 5 km seems to be well inside the danger zone. Someone with advanced physics/aerodynamics knowledge could probably compute the maximum range of the APFSDS-T round from the v0 given. Oh, and I think this belongs in the General forum.
10. BTS, here is my view of the problem: 1. Mods containing swastikas and the like: You can't be held responsible for mods made and distributed by independent persons, but you can get in trouble if you promote the use of these mods. So if MadMatt, who is a BTS employee, distributes mods which contain illegal material, he and the leaders of BTS (i.e. Charles and Steve) could be in trouble, should you ever visit Germany, because you have supplied illegal material to Germany. 2. Waffen SS: You can probably use the term Waffen SS, but not the SS runes. But you have to be careful not to glorify them in any way. This also means that the Waffen SS shouldn't be portrait as any kind of elite unit in your product. If however the only difference between Waffen SS and other Axis units are their uniforms (without forbidden symbols) and TOE, you shouldn't have any problems. But since this is a rather delicate topic, I wouldn't rely on the advice of all us laypersons here, but seek professional advice. You might for example want to contact the German embassy http://www.germany-info.org and see, if they can give you some assistance. Oh, and Steve: Thanks for the reference to the censorship on American TV. I was tempted myself to say something to that effect on several occasions on this board, but I didn't want to start a flame war ------------------ Lutz Former Senior Junior Member
11. Hm, I've been waiting for over an hour now, and still no answer whatsoever. Maybe I have to rephrase my question: Why can't the AI use assault goats? ------------------ Lutz Former Senior Junior Member
