  1. Gentlemen, The purpose of this thread is to conduct a personal survey of those interested in cm from an astrological perspective... as a trivial digression for personal and possibly other's interest. It seems to be disintegrating into waffle about the validity of astrology. Let's not tie up the bandwidth unnecessarily as my experience is that if you do not see the validity, you are inherantly incapable of understanding and applying the concepts. This is not a put down as you will undoubtedly have other strengths. No one has it all. Dallas
  2. Echo, Personal email on the way. You keep forgetting to post your dob! Dallas

That sort of gobbly gook is not in itself a problem. People that lie and deceive others for profit and gain are revolting to me. If my powers of logic and reason don't intimidate you, please E-mail me so we can discuss this more frankly. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hi Echo, I'm not trying to do anything other than indulge an interest and perhaps entertain the forum members while I have a bit of spare time up my sleeve. I'm not trying to 'convert' anyone to my way of thinking. I'm not interested in 'proving' to anyone that this stuff is useful. You don't need supernatural powers to collate and interpret data, statisticians do it all the time. Your powers of logic and reasoning don't intimidate me because they are not present in your post. Good point about the $10m. Why don't I chase that money? I think it is because I cannot prove that this stuff is valuable to anyone. People have to see the value themselves. I haven't looked at the proof required but my guess is that they will require 'scientific' evidence. These areas of knowledge are not scientific in nature and therefor cannot be 'proven' in this manner. I am certainly not deluding myself, and I have no desire to delude others. I agree totally that people who lie and decieve others for profit are not nice people. I hope you are simply misinterpreting my motive because if you are not misinterpreting then you expose yourself as an intolerant and blinkered personality much in need of the spirituality and self awareness contained in these subjects. Don't take it personnally. If they are making fun of you then they haven't read on Hitler that much. 02/19/72 A lot of people still aren't aware of the extent that Hitler ,Hess , and Himmler used astrology to help them judge what to do. Hitler even had all fortune seers rounded up and killed any that gave readings of a German loss in the war. Loki, I don't think Hitler believed in anything but himself. If he killed astrologers it was because of their anti war sentiments. I think he killed everyone who was overtly pessimistic about the war. As to the significance of the day Hitler killed himself, I think it was because the Russians were in the streets above, killing everyone in sight pbem setup is on the way. ___________________ Huns_1 Day after his wedding? My conclusion was that there is something in each of them in the hands of a wise and sensitive practicioner. But then a lot of wise and sensitive practicioners can do quite well without the props. So it all depends. There are many strange and wonderful things in the world. No, I will not tell you my sign, but I will give you a hint: I love to twit people, but I am not mean. There! That should tell you all you need to know! Michael, if you had made a thourough study of these topics then you would know that it's a loser's game to try to guess. BTW in my opinion there is no truth to Hitler's fascination with astrology etc. My view is that he was a very practical man with little to no spirituality. ________________ Trooper I seem to be meeting Wiccans everywhere... 5. It's very easy and comfortable to make fun of things you don't understand. Ignorant people have been doing it since we could communicate. I'm not calling anyone here ignorant because I am not sure whether you are making fun of me or having fun with me. It's much harder to break away from one's known world and explore and evaluate for yourself what others have seen but in the end it is far more satisfying. Andy A Yes it will help you win. But you will have to put years of effort into it. Even then you may not have the natural ability to understand it to use it properly. If you do understand it you will soon realise that winning at CM is a pathetic under use for your newfound knowledge. How can it help you to win? It will help you to know yourself. Your strengths and weaknesses. If Patton had realised that he was a Rooster in Eastern Astrology he may not have made so many self destructive political gaffes. Roosters are well known to have the tendency to speak before they think. If Hitler had realised that he was a Taurus Ox Five he may have tempered his vindictive, stubborn and risk loving nature. If Hitler had understood this stuff he would have recognised Stauffenberg and some of the other resistance members as his natural enemies. We might be grateful that like most people, he was unable to grasp the significance. I have most of the well known ww11 general's data from both sides and have studied it in light of surviving information on their performance. I have found no major inconsistencies and some amazing consistencies. Example; put all well known ww11 German officers in a database and select who is least compatible with Hitler... answer is Stauffenberg slightly less compatible than Rommel. Just one of many. Joe and Michael Yes, I do understand palmistry and chirology (the study of hands) as well as graphology (handwriting analysis). And why not? They are all viable tools with long histories of success. Thanks for your replies but I'm thinking the CM world is not ready for me on this level pbem anyone? Dallas ------------------ If the war is to be lost, the nation also will perish. 6. Two things... Firstly, I am thinking that the HitlerJugend division was comprised solely of those born in 1926 because 1926 is the year of the Tiger in Eastern Astrology. The Tiger is the most aggressive and spirited sign in Eastern Astrology. If I was forming divisions, I would definitely use Tigers given the opportunity. I think Himmler thought this as well. Their subsequent battle history speaks for itself in terms of ferocity and tenacity (if not intelligence). My mates think it was just Himmler scraping the bottom of the manpower barrel but I am thinking otherwise... any thoughts? Secondly, I would like to conduct an Eastern Astrological, Western Astrological and Numerological survey on those who frequent the board and thus are interested in wargaming. If you also would like to see the results, please post your date of birth in mm dd yy format and I will collate, interpret and post the results. If the response is good enough for a decent sample, I think it could make very interesting reading. Dallas ------------------ If the war is to be lost, the nation also will perish. 7. I think its just a question of scale. PBEM for larger scenarios and TCP/IP for smaller ones. I thought that VOT and the others were too small to be enjoyed via email but the large scenarios are very playable because you have lots of time to plan. Small battles will probably be most popular via TCP/IP because you don't have to wait as long. The smaller battles are going to be fun with time limits. Second2None... Try playing a large scenario via email when you get the game. I thought pbem was boring too until I started playing a huge one. At least that might keep you occupied until the patch comes out. Dallas
  8. Sgt Rock, I don't know Macksville but if it is near the coast it will have changed a lot. That whole coast area north of sydney is pretty popular because of the surf, climate and that its close to Sydney. I spent a bit of time in Broulee (a village) on the south east coast in the mid seventies and it is now almost unrecogniseable.

  10. ********Possible VOT spoiler Info******* Hi all, Excellent topic. I am a chess player too and have no problem with people 'resigning' early as long as they tell me and don't just walk away in disgust. In the chess world a player who insists on continuing even after he has a obviously lost position is considered amateurish if not boorish. It's a little different in CM as the luck factor is very high. My current pbem opponent is fighting gamely with the remnants of two platoons against overwhelming odds. His panther is crippled from 105 fire behind the hill 209 and my flamethrower is 100 yards away from it yet he still wants to fight on after my earlier offer for him to surrender. l love that kind of fighting spirit in CM because I may get the satisfaction of taking out the panther with my flamethrower. And I also am interested to see what he can come up with in terms of a defense but I would be just as happy with a win and a new game. Talking about net courtesy I think that the winning player should offer to let the losing player surrender as soon as he thinks the game is a foregone conclusion. In CM pbem the winning player who insists on playing out the won game and gets irritated when the losing player surrenders could be considered the amateurish if not boorish player. Like in Fionn's and Bil's recent game, I don't think it makes a lot of sense to play out a foregone conclusion. If anyone wants a pbem send any setup to dallas@dnaanalysis.com.au I am online via cable 24/7 for business and can guarantee that all games will be played quickly, courteously, tenaciously and to mutually agreed completion. 12. POSSIBLE VOT SPOILER************ I had just moved a sherman over the crest of the middle hill to within 40 metres of the wall just before Plomville. Spotted a German rifle platoon behind the wall and thought they were going to be toast.. No! They ran straight at the sherman taking one casualty before they got right UNDERNEATH the thing and did something that caused a casualty in the tank and changed the crews morale to SHOCKED..I think I was more shocked. They then calmly ran back to the wall taking no further casualties. BTW they were GREEN troops. Too green to know the danger? In retrospect it was the smartest and gutsiest move they could have made. Great ai.
  13. Thanks Madmatt I agree that this issue is not critical and it is a credit to the designers that this is the only change I can think of that I want. Oh and frame by frame slow motion playback ( I can only get 2 sec increments at best) which still makes it difficult to replay those really good shots. The ultimate for me is complete control over the camera, 360 degree panning, tilting etc. and the ability to hotkey my favourite views. Dallas
  14. Thanks Bullethead but I'm thinking of the larger 4km x 4km maps that we will soon have. I'd like to be able to view as much terrain as in views #7 and #8, but with the camera angle of view #4. Dallas
  15. I did a search and cannot find any specific references to this issue in the archives. Why is infinite zoom not implemented rather than the current choices of 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x? I use view "4" almost exclusively and would like to zoom out to see more of the action, particularly once I generate the larger maps in the full game. If it is not too difficult, please consider it as a future upgrade. Outstanding effort on the Gold Demo! ------------------ Dallas
  16. Fionn, I too read the articles and appreciate your motives are honourable. It's your method that I feel could do with some fine tuning. I also want Talonsoft to produce better wargames but I think wargamers are a bit of a minority and as such we might be grateful that anyone at all caters to us rather than exclusively chase the big 3D shooter dollars. So maybe we could let them find their own way, in their own time to make better games rather than try to bash them into submission with righteous facts and figures. You are an experienced wargamer, please would you share with us your favourite wargames and why they appeal to you so that we can then compare them with the the current crop...cc3 et al. I'll kick it off by admitting that I loved Empire on the Atari. I hear grognards retching... Maybe it was because I was young. But nothing since has given me the sheer pleasure of large operations without the complexity that for me, too often clouds the issue. Another one I loved was Borodino on the Atari by the Dr someone. Primitive graphics, probably totally unrealistic battle resolution. But I played it for months on end because I had a feeling of controlling a whole army. Harpoon 2 is another favourite. What a brilliant game for its time. Yes, plagued with bugs, slow and poor ai opponents. But you send an Orion to investigate a contact and it does it SO intelligently! Beautiful to behold. As a comparison, I bought Fleet Commander two days ago and it stayed on my hard drive for 4 hours only while I searched for reasons that could justify my purchase. But am I going to write to them and slam them for what I think is a poor game?...nah, I'll just wait for Harpoon 4 and let them see for themselves how they missed the mark. Hopefully, Jane's will up the ante next time. This type of discussion is likely to be most enjoyable. Best of all, it instructive and constructive rather than divisive. Warm regards, Dallas
  17. If it was MY game, I would hunt down and use the most immpossible to crack system known to man. I wouldn't pander to the wimpy honest end user concerned about being 'inconvenienced' because the 'inconvenience' is not really a big deal. Like, having to find the cdrom to play? Taking two or three minutes to look up a word (in your well looked after manual)...come on Big Time. Give us some state of the art copy protection we can be PROUD of! Imagine...uh, no man...I can't copy THIS cd for you because it has ultra-high-definition-trackdata-simthings!... Sleazy pirate character says...WOW! This game must be REALLY cool to have such major protection! I think I'll have to actually BUY a copy of this one! This is actually good for the pirate because instead of having a quick look at it and discarding it because it cost him nothing and he has hundreds of other pirated games to check out before bedtime, he will actually PLAY it because IT OWES HIM MONEY! Character building really. Yeah, lets get some ELITISM into this copy protection thing. Dallas
  18. I KNEW I wasn't a sucker! BTW is there any field glass 'zoom in' type feature offered? Will you be able to personalise (name) your commanders in multiplayer? Can you save\resume the game at any stage? I love the idea of replaying your battles after the event. I think at one stage Maj Holdridge was toying with this idea in Tacops but it became too resource intensive or something... hope this feature makes it into CM. Can't say how glad I am that wargame lovers are IN CONTROL here!
  19. Fionn, Thanks for the link to the articles. I read them 'after' I pre ordered Combat Mission though. I now feel like a vulnerable fluffy white rabbit frozen in the harsh glare of Big Time's marketing headlights. Although I am somewhat reassured by the level of discussion on this board, they hit every one of my 'buy wargame' triggers and it worked brilliantly for them. Yeah, I bought cc1, 2 and 3 and all the other 'serious' games too. The funny thing is that in my real life I thought I was a rational and 'in control' human being. Hopefully I just fall apart when it comes to new wargames. Hmmm... must look more closely at other areas... The real value in your message is that maybe the level of games development will rise in direct proportion to the awareness of the consumer.
