Rune did this for CM:BO when it was still in beta (I didn't make it out there then either). What lacked then was the seeming bad blood about it.

I was the only (I think) person who showed up for Rune's sneak peek of CMBO. Rune is truly a generous man and I am sorry I couldn't make it out there today (would have brought beer again :D )) but I hope you guys all had fun.

In fact it is time to get back to the Patton Museum as it is. The bi-annual pilgrimage you know :D

What about in Baltimore, close to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds and the Ordnance Museum. I live in Chicago, and I'd be willing to drive 2 days instead of 6 hours for that!
  3. To my section members:

I apologize PROFUSELY for abandoning you all in the last quarter of the tourney. I unexpectedly lost my internet access, graduated college and moved and was totally out of touch with the entire world for a period of two months. I really, really feel awful.

If we need to finish up, let me know. I've got a real (i.e. full time) job now, but I'll happily work around that.

Again, I'm very sorry and wish the best of luck to all the semi-finalists.

  4. Hi guys

I work for a bookstore and in our discount section, we've just received four copies of Death Traps: The Survival of an American Armored Division in World War II. I bought one copy, my history professer/friend/coworker is buying the other one and, at last count, there were two left. Because of my discount, and the fact that they're in less than ideal shape (creases, scratches, etc. - nothing major) I only have to pay $2 per copy.

Thus.. for the first two people to email me, I'll buy and send you a copy - FREE. Why? Because I'm a fairly nice guy, I think, and I love the CM community. Besides, $2 + ~$1 S&H isn't much. Even for me, who makes about $5.80 an hour. :D I wish I had more copies to send - and if I do, I'll let you guys know.

I'll probably send the books next week as I'm going on spring break right now and will be out of town. If you live overseas and you're one of the first two, I'll still send you a copy (and feel cool asking for the postal rates to Finland or Australia.. hehe).

Here is what amazon.com has to say about the book:

    Death Traps

    So... lemme know!

Haha. This is so far out it's not even funny anymore.

IMO cdv is a classic example of one of those software companies that give games, especially wargames, a bad name. And they are quite the opposite to BTS's Manifesto.

That sounds like a Marketing nitwit talking, not the whole company. Does any self respecting wargamer ever really think that an RTS game could be realistic? If they use those phrases to milk the average Quakehead/Command & Conquer weenie, then by all means, go at it! I don't buy games for what they advertise to do.

I also trust BTS in pretty much everything they do (no reason not to) and if they say CDV is ok - then by all means, CDV is ok!

Huzzah, BTS! More power (and money) to you!

  6. Were the Polish forces any different from their Russian counterparts? I just read a book called "My Just War" about a Pole who went into the Soviet Army. I got the impression that while there were Polish units, they were largely identical to the Soviet ones, and often spoke Russian themselves.

The reason Poles may not be included is the same that the Spanish, Dutch, Danes, Norweigans and Belgians are not included for the Germans - they were so integrated into the German Army (Spanish Blau Division, Wiking SS Division, etc.) that there is no point in distingishing them individually. I mean, all you'd really need to do is change sound files and only then would you be able to tell that the company you're fighting with is made up of Spaniards instead of Berliners or Wurttembergers. They wore the same uniforms, fired the same weapons...

Surely the scale should be right for the scale = realistic, and then two tank models fit on one road (three in fact).

Yes, but I think they mean the roads as they look now are 1-vehicle roads. Notice that there are only two double lines of tracks and mud, whereas if it was a two lane road there would be four lines or tracks and mud.

Still, I nominate this as my 'Mod of the Year.'

  8. Hi guys

I was wondering if there were going to be any changes made to the possibility of crews abandoning tanks. I checked the unofficial CMBB FAQ and search function, but nothing turned up. I remember in CC3 that you could feasibly knock out a KV-2 with a 50mm Pak if you hit it enough times because a crew with low experience and low morale would freak out and run. Realistic? Maybe, maybe not. I was an infantryman, not a tanker, and consequently have no idea what a bunch of loud bangs on a hull would do to my morale.

I bring this up because I'm simply curious... in CMBO I can't recall a crew abandoning a tank without suffering a penetrating shot. I'm not suggesting that we can use 20mm AA guns to scare out the crew of a JS-3 given enough hits, but I'm just curious to know if the new tank morale will include the possibility of crews bailing out without extensive penetration or damage.

Thanks for a good and hard game, ytinghellfish. BTW, where does your nickname come from. I always fail to remember it.

Wouldn't it be from that Simpsons episode? The Fightin' Hellfish was the unit "Grandpa Simpson" commanded in WW2.

Oh, and BTW, when are the results for this whole thing coming out?</font>

    Treeburst155 out.

I'm here.. just having a devil of a time with Gold's turns. The PBEM data keeps showing up as email text, and when I try to save it in PBEM format (copy and paste, making a new .txt file), sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. e're working on it, though.

Or any time period against any time period.. like taking Panzer Is against JS-3s, if I felt like it. I think CMBB won't allow that. If Elefants were only on the Eastern Front from X to Y, then you don't get to use them at any other time. What if that timeline doesn't coincide with what I want to play against?

Petty request, I know. But still...

You just have to design a scenario to do this. You can even try this now in CMBO. Create a scenario, set the date to 6/44, include a 14" spotter. Then, change the date to 5/45 and select a Pershing. Then choose whatever date you like and take more units. It's that easy.

So you'll get your request, but probably not for QBs.
