1. Hello Cesspoolers I understand this is the place to brag about victories in battle and verbally abuse opponents crushed on the battlefield. Well I'm fresh off two TCP/IP victories. Who did I defeat? I think Trotsky was one of them, can't remember the other one but he had 9 straight wins until he met my faithful Brits one evening. I'm sure he'll speak up if he's here. I must read more of this thread so I can learn the finer points of wit sacrasm and verbal abuse. I'm afraid I have to admit to being a new comer to this thread... oh well let her rip.... -tom w
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Stefan Wennerberg: Is there any reason (e.g., longer pause to start moving, slower turrent traverse) to not use the HIDE command with vehicles? Stefan Wennerberg

There is a "suggestion" that the vehicle "may" be hampered by reduced spotting ability when hiding, but I have never seen or read of this being confirmed? Reduced spotting ability when a vehicle is hiding doesn't make sense to me, as it sould be able to hear and listen for sound cantacts BETTER when the engine is quiet? -tom w
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Flipper: terrence you need to rtfm...anyway thanks for the new patch maybe more people will show up for tcp/ip play..now get back to work!

"terrence you need to rtfm" ???? No, I believe terence is completely correct. page 159 of the manual ("keeps engines on low idle") no? -tom w [This message has been edited by aka_tom_w (edited 01-10-2001).]
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Mannheim Tanker: I'll take either side, but I'm always happy to play with some Krupp steel. Even the cheap stuff.

OK I'm happy with the Allies now all we need is a Scenario I trust Rune, maybe he has a new one for us? IS one of Rune's custom scenarios good for you? Like a New one that we have both NEVER seen before ok? -tom w
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by TOBRUK: Uhh..wait guys! Over the last few months I've d/l'd maybe a gazillion scenarios from various places, and stored them on a disk. Does this mean that these scenarios are now UNPLAYABLE with v1.1? Thanks -T

Good questions what are the issues involved here? anyone? -tom w
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Mannheim Tanker: Hey Tom! I nearly forgot about that. Yeah, drop me an email and we'll set something up. I think I'm free on Sunday (Saturday is DEFINITELY out for me - the Mrs. has the day off and I'd be mighty unpopular if I spent all day whupping your butt) .

ok I have not forgotten but I'm a right off for this weekend. But I'm still looking forward to the match up. LEts see if we can get a custom build fair and balanced scenario with Railroad tracks, towns rivers and bridges build for us. What side do you want? -tom w
 7. it is my understanding that in the game Hide as it relates to Tanks ONLY idles the engine making a sound contact alot less likely. NOW if you rotate the tank then the engine is not on LOW idle so it will make noise, so if it is making noise it CANNOT hide and be less likely to be "spotted" as a "sound contact" I understand hiding tanks is ALL about reducing the chance of a sound contact because they are not really "hiding" just silenced temporarily so ANY engine noise is irreconcilable with "no" engine noise and "hiding" Anyone else? comments? Who knows how this REALLY works? (in the game that is?) -tom w
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Mannheim Tanker: Are you suffering from "member" envy? Actually, you gain "member" status after 30 posts. Fewer than 30 posts qualify you as a Junior member. So much for that ? I'll leave the velocity question to the true grogs!

Hey MT! We need to play TCP/IP head to head do we not? now that v1.1 is out we have no excuses other than the inevitable "I don't have any time" Are we still on....? It will take a about a week for me to clear about 4-5 hours for a good sit down head to head match with you -tom w
 9. You have made only 6 posts to the forum so far, until you have made at least 30 posts you will be a "junior member" I think some others here are more qualified to answer your first question than myself. -tom w
 10. One VERY Big Thanks! Very VERY wonderful -tom w
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by rexford: 75L48 muzzle velocity of 770 m/s could be a random variation from 750 m/s average.

OK if we/you/BTS wanted to get REALLY complicated (more realistic, more accurate?) perhaps when the calculation/algorythm is executed for EVERY Main weapon round fired (WAY better than actaully rolling the dice for every result here in old board games like Tobruk) the possible random variation of 730 m/s to 770 m/s could be bell curved with an equation to indicate that the majority of the shots that are fired were "lauched" at around 750 m/s (if that is the "true" average), and some shots would be fired faster or slower than that. This would add even more time to crunch the turn. Would it add any MORE noticable realism? Good question? I doubt it... oh well it was just a thought...... A litte random (via a bell curve) variation in the velocity of the round as it leaves might be a cool feature to add, but in Real Life ™ probably not really worth the effort on the part of Charles. -tom w
 12. WOW I started the thread to chat with other MAc users here.. (because I know there are plenty of them) about the news from the Keynote speech today. Sorry it had to be a stale old PC vs. Mac debate. Oh well I just wanted to here from other mac users about the how they felt about today's news? Nothing more Happy Happy... New Toys from Apple -tom w
 13. Nothing in the game draws fire from the AI like Anti Tank teams AND FO's. -tom w
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by M. Bates: I find it strange how computer users treat Apple like a friendly/enemy sports team.

WHAT?? Apple Computer is OUR Passsion! (its not just some "sports team") We are THRILLED with new technology the New Titatium G4 Powerbook weighs only 5.3 pounds and is 1 inch thick and is MADE out of Titantium and carbon fiber composite technology. new iTunes software for digital audio is FREE and you can download it RIGHT NOW! (for a Mac of course) You probably can't imagine the sheer elation Mac fanatics feel right now Unix is the root of OSX and it is OPEN architecture. The "Closed" OS 9.1 will be left behind when Apple starts to Ship CPU's with OSX install this coming June! (BSD Unix is the root of OSX) I'm still BLOWN away!! -tom w [This message has been edited by aka_tom_w (edited 01-09-2001).]

Which one?

try this one: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/014474.html
 20. Ok its an old thread.... But now that CM2 development is on the horizon, I thought this thread should be revisited. It has some COOL ideas in it that have not popped up latly, like wailing Stuka sirens! -tom w [This message has been edited by aka_tom_w (edited 01-07-2001).]

 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Oh god, not this topic again. Kinda reminds me of the "FOW map" threads from pre Gold Demo days where some people wanted the map to be dynamic and shrouded like in RTS games where objects, just as bridges, woods, etc would be placed on the field in ghostly positions and then revealed truthfully when the player advanced far enough. But a view lock while creating scenarios? How in the hell would that work? I mean you've got your map overview screen when placing objects, etc. What would a locked view accomplish here?

YES! And I was one of those that was suggesting the RTS Shroud of mist (like fog) for any part of the board that your units did not have LOS to. I still think that some FOG should be there. Playing this game the way it is now, with Full FOW on at Night in Dense Fog is about the same as I think it should be ALL the time. When in View 8 you can still see ALL the map like it is a road map. But in my opinion as it is now you can roam around the map at view 2 or 3 or 4 and the fog lifts as to move around. I think that Foggy mist should only LIFT where your guys have LOS, and the LOS would be different lengths or distances depending on the weather and lighting conditions. I would love to see this game with an option to lock to ONLY any friendly unit and only view 1 or view 2 AND have the SAME fog that is there now ALWAYS there for all places on the map your units don't have LOS to. I have, in all reality, given up all hope that the game will ever be built or designed this way because as someone once posted some time ago in the first go around on the issue, "Its NOT Recon Mission, its Combat Mission" !! Oh well, I would still like to see MORE fog of war, some form of Super FOW or Ultra FOW option. Anyway, Steve and Charles have Made a GREAT game and it is approaching perfection in its TCP/IP v1.1 patch.... So just keep up the good work! -tom w
 24. Some of us actually come here to discuss and read about this "stuff". Rexford's comments and insight may actually make CM2 EVEN better! I'm not sure why others here don't just disregard this "stuff" and post in other threads where perhaps there is a more constructive and positive discussion taking place. In the meantime some of us really enjoy all this technical data and ballistics stuff. Keep up the good work Rexford! -tom w
