  1. Now a short intro:

Unfortunately this mission will only be complete after the release of the map editor so that I can add objects to it.

I'll also add some more random stuff to spice it up.

    Almost all infantry.

2 Tanks, one on each side.

    Map is Rovno.

    Germans (You) X Russians (AI)

298 troops on the map. More than that I get CTD. Not sure if that is my machine's limit or the game. 300 probably the limit. I wanted to have 250 on each side... :D

Have fun. And please let me know your opinions/suggestions.

Also It would be really great if someone volunteered to write the intro or the briefing adding some more realism to it. I'm crap at this.

  2. I need someone to help me test this mission. I'ts not finished but already fun I guess. I need someone to help me with some opinions and pointers.

If you only like tank battles then this is not for you. Only 2 tanks in this one. Hundreds of troops though! :D

Once its finished I'll put it somewhere for anyone that wants to download.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I haven't checked them all but germans Staff squads or rifle squads, the commander has submachineguns. For the russians I'm sure this is also true for at least rifle squads.

So I guess by default they do have other weapons. But it depends on the mission designer to assign the weapons.

Commanders of AT gun crews only have pistols though by default.

  4. Some people question why only after weeks of the game release people are already talking about MODS.

I am already thinking of MODS before the game's release! smile.gif

All the maps in TOW are very gentle slopes so I guess there is some limitation in the engine regarding drastic changes in elevation. Else they would appear in at least some maps. So I think modding the terrain topology is not feasible. Nothing is impossible though.

Having said that, deserts are obviously really flat, so no problem to have them in game. Would only need to change the maintexture for the map and the materials related to it.

I'm optimistic about a MOD for this in the near future.

You should definitely read the official thread about the upcoming patches.

The Devs are working on some LOS tool. And many other things. Not to mention more pressing issues related to hardware conflicts with the game. It should be released any time soon.

    I have an Athlon 64 3500+, GForce 6600 GT.

The game runs smooth. When there are many tanks in some battles and everybody is firing it slows down for sure though.

Personally I don't think there is a problem with LOS. The AI can't see anything hidden. It depends on the scout settings of the troops. This defines how well they can spot the enemy. I can hide my troops and AT if I put them in the right places, most of the time. The terrain is pretty flat though in almost all the maps with not many obstacles to block LOS and this is a bit unrealistic in my opinion.

  6. Look in the picture.

    exuh5.th.jpg

Add first the pak to the deployment.

Then add the truck in sleep mode.

Than go to item 6 and the pak will be there.

Once you attach it it will jump to sleep mode too.

    Then add the ReinforcementLand bit.

    =---

  7. Only "sleeping" Groups and AI Army can have several units in a group.

But I don't really see the limitation of one group - one unit for the blue force. You can have as many groups as you like as far as I know.

    Light the fire!?

I guess the next bit of the editor will be release!? :D

The editor is not complete without being able to add static objects.

  9. Cincinatvs,

I didn't have this problem. I have managed to move units, groups and armies so far. You probably want to move single soldiers. That works for me.

Two things come to my mind:

Is it really Rect-1 ? Or is it Rect_1? The underscore is the default name. Wrong spelling maybe?

Before the RunCommand have you used the SetWorkArmy?

    Can't think of anything else.

Webwing, thats just it though. Several of our testers have GeForce cards (including my #1 tester Rune) and NONE OF THEM ever encountered these problems. My comp is also below the specs and I really cant complain about the performance apart from the shadows issue.

This is what we are working on and testing and trying to fix right now though.

Yes the number of combinations is huge. In a way I'm lucky because I can play the game very well if I turn off shadows. Most of all I can use the editor which some people have problems with. That would really make me mad.

But the way you guys are always around to explain things and tell in detail whats going on behind the scenes is quite something.

    Let's exercise some patience. smile.gif

  11. I can understand other peoples impatience. I have a similar problem. Nobody said it was NVidia's problem though, but a conflict between the card and the game.

I find it odd that this issue was not identified before the game release in beta testing specially being the NVidia cards so popular.

But until the patch arrives the only way around that worked for me is turn the shadows off. Yes, its not a real solution! So I hope the patch comes soon and I can have my shadows back.

On the other hand I know how tricky this issues are and I do believe they are working on it to try and find a solution.

I'm not giving up on this game so the only thing to do is wait.

  12. Don't think you can get a refund.

    From the ordering page:

"Battlefront.com encourages you to review the product DETAILS or play the game DEMO before making a purchase.

    ALL SALES ARE FINAL!"

Now, you could try and sell it at ebay. Or even offer it at the TOW forum, not the tech support one.

In the editor under Unit Classification there is an item: MORTAR. It's empty! I assume there was a plan to have it but no time for the release date. Is it going to be in the next patch?

I enjoy the game for what it is. I played the demo, read all the criticism here in the forum when it was released, and decided although it's not a perfect package I was going to have fun with it. So I ordered a few days ago. I like it for what it is and disregard what it is not. Just like all games. It was not custom made for me.

Now, there are some real bugs which will be addressed in a patch and this was the purpose of this thread in the first place.

I don't have the inclination, nor the time to post here countering every negative remark. Neither, of course, do I get anything in return if I do so. I think a lot o people that like the game don't post here.

I keep saying this: I don't mind people complaining but most get close to calling the Devs morons. I think there is no need to be rude or to keep posting the same complains over and over.

    I agree!

It's not going to be something that a casual player is going to do but for Modders... I don't see the problem.

The only thing is that some more popular games have big modding communities but wargames like TOW I'm not so sure if it would attract the same people. Let's hope.

It's going to be pretty much like some other games... OPF or ARMA, where you can't mess with the terrain but add a few objects and basically concentrate on the mission itself.

The terrain in those games though is a lot more varied than TOW.

It seems to me that the way the mesh is done in TOW the texture is one big image file and not tiled textures for specific materials, grass, mud, etc ala CM.

So it's more like a modding thing, editing the mesh in 3DMax and then doing the image in Photoshop and then codding the elevation and materials in some sort of utility released by the Devs or made by some modder. Not a trivial process for most.
