  1. Will we be able to purchase a single license to download and install CMBN on both a Mac and a PC?

No, this is not possible. The two versions are not compatible in any way (there is no hybrid version of the game), so the licenses have to be purchased separately.

You can install the PC version on a laptop and a desktop at the same time, and same goes for the Mac version of course, but you cannot purchase both games "in one", sorry.

  2. For our full game downloads, we are using a cloud server network with unlimited bandwidth and 100% uptime. The cloud has international access points, too, meaning that there are usually no download speed differences no matter where you are in the world. Usually the only thing limiting your speed are your own ISP and/or any bottlenecks in between, and we can't do anything about those.

We had a number of large releases via this cloud before and there have not been any issues that I can remember, ever. It is easily able to handle tens of thousands of parallel downloads, no problem. It is bloody expensive, but for our customers, we only choose the best :)

  3. I'm getting concerned for what's going to happen when I receive Normandy, but then I've seen this stuff with Battlefront games before. Sigh.

At least I'm now enjoying CMBB and CMAK (which I bought the other day).

While the Korea demo and Normandy will use the same copy protection technology, the details in how it's implemented vary a great deal between demos and full version games. Either way, I don't think it's the copy protection technology that is causing the demo to crash anyway. Much more likely are either hardware/driver issues with the game, or Windows security settings which are too restrictive. Feel free to go to www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and click on Submit Ticket and we can help you troubleshoot.

  4. If I buy CMBN (physical) after release do I get the printed manual as well?

That depends on availability. Right now it looks like ifthere will be any Limited Editions left at all after pre-orders close, then certainly it won't be many; and there is a decent chance that we'll have none left. With Mac pre-orders now open for a day we're currently flying through the stock we put aside. Now this will probably slow down again, but then again around the release things usually pick up, so my best prediction right now is that you may be able to get a Limited Edition with printed manual still around the release day+1, but most likely not much later than that.

We will put up a stock warning on the purchase page once we start running low, and then announce when it's sold out as well.

  5. Actually, not surprising for us to see Finland ahead (and Sweden close), since we have access to other data (sales and account registrations, demo download data etc.) and other that data confirms that we have a strong following in Finland for years already.

Even if you take into consideration Finland's population and that it is the most internet-connected country in the world (I read that somewhere) - with the most and fastest connections per capita - it's still coming out strong in comparison to other countries.

  6. One support question though: I've started buying all my stuff online and preferably as direct downloads. I've read somewhere that if you buy games as direct download on battlefront.com you will only get to download it once? Is this true or just a vicious rumour? Steam has made me into a believer. I just love online databases.

You can download a game up to 10 times for up to 365 days after the initial download. This is NOT a digital storage type of service such as Steam is offering. That service has its own drawbacks, and we do not offer it currently. The 10t/365d download model is mainly intended for customers who have a problem with the initial download, or want to download to more than 1 PC etc. In most cases, you do not need to download more than once. After downloading, you should simply make a copy of the setup files (e.g. burn to disc, thumb drive, or even upload to a personal online storage website). The ability to copy the setup files is one of the advantages of our system and makes you independent of any one online source or account.

What Barkhorn linked to above is something else, namely the number of activations you can have for your key. That isn't tied to your downloads. Activations and downloads are entirely separate things (another advantage of our model that is not tied to one specific online source or account).

Unlike downloads, your license key never expires. You get 4 activations "out of the box" for a key (actually, it's 2 activations plus 2 "overflow" activations), and you can add one per year, every year.

  7. Go to www.battlefront.com/store. click on Normandy, then Download (or Download&Mail), and the est. file size is shown to the right of the box shot (among other info).

For a new product that isn't released, this is an estimate only. It looks like the download for CMBN will actually be a bit bigger than the 1.3 GB originally estimated. But not by much. I think the Mac version is bigger. You'll know for sure, um, next week.

  8. I saw a good DRM scheme the other day.

Brady Games water marks .pdf ebooks you but with your name on every page.

Apart from that their is nothing stopping you reading it and transfering it to any devices you like. Non-invasive and bleeding obvious if your not the owner.

Not a good scheme if you ask me. Imagine someone stealing that PDF from you and distributing all over the place, and you getting the blame for it. Oops.

  9. Hi Amadeus,

you will find information about shipping times in several places, including here: www.battlefront.com/helpdesk.

This may be especially interesting: "International Shipping & Customs"

Unfortunately, it seems that European Customs (German in particular) are getting slower and slower to process shipments. We have seen exceedingly long delays in several cases now. There isn't anything we can do about this: once the product leaves our warehouse (and we process them very quickly), it is out of our hands, literally, and the transit times depend on the carrier as well as on customs.

To make matters worse, our own stock transfer from the US warehouse to the EU location has also been caught up in customs, and took a very long time to clear (with no explanation nor indication from German customs). It is here now, so our EU warehouse will now be able to begin shipping the product, which means that transit times should shorten considerably again (since no customs is involved).

  10. You may be in for a rude awakening: every DRM out there fingerprints your PC when you activate a game (eLicense does this, too, there is no difference between it and our new activation system). This is the only way to ensure that a game, once activated, isn't simply distributed illegally.

  11. sfhand,

I am repeating myself, but let's try it one more time: you will not have any problems doing all these activations. And in the future, if you want to replace a hard drive or motherboard, you will be able to do it as well, because you will be able to add one activation to your key per year. You will not have to contact support for that, it's an online tool. It's just like a revoke tool except it's called differently :)
