Tankbuster
Hi all Just playing through the demo and now I have the gunnery sorted (thanks to some tutorials on this forum) I am really enjoying this sim and have just ordered the full game. In the demo target practice I ran out of missiles and thought I was going to fail the objective, but out of desperation I switched to the next nearest shell type (BKS/HEAT) loaded up and aimed from the TC position. To my amazement and surprise I hit the thing first time and it went down  Would this normally have been possible on a moving aerial target with HEAT ??
killakanz
BKS isn't HEAT, it's Fragmentation-HE so I'm not suprised the chopper went down. Obviously it'll be a lot trickier to hit a moving target
Sneaksie
Normally this helo would have already KO you from 6-8km distance. In demo helo behave like "here i am, shoot me". For such morons you have AA machine gun. Asfor your shot, if vertical angle of tank gun permits and helo is moving slow, it's much like moving ground vehicle. Actually there were cases with ww2 tanks hitting ground attack planes without fancy modern targeting systems.

Obviously it'll be a lot trickier to hit a moving target Actually BKS is HEAT. OFS is HE-Frag. It must have been nice shot by the way, because of the ~400m/s velocity of the round in game.

Sneaksie
OFS = oskolochno-fugasny snaryad = fragmentation - high explosive shell BKS = broneboino-kumulyativnyy snaryad = armour-piercing - cumulative (hollow charge) shell
Tankbuster
Oh well, whatever the shell was it felt bloody good hitting him. I took his range twice as he moved and plugged him immediately after taking the second range reading - worked a treat
