  1. Couldn't agree more with what's been said here...an interest in German military equipment, command structure, and the typical combination of manpower inferiority and technical superiority make playing as the Germans alot of fun for me personally as well as many others on this forum...but DOES NOT make me or them a Nazi FanBoy. Enough with the generalities!
  2. Thanks as well, Jason...I witnessed another similar attack after writing the original message so I was able to verify it myself. I really enjoy learning alot from you about the game and its historical basis -- even if some of your messages are a bit excessively harsh. But I won't hold it against you...after all, a bit of honest emotion is refreshing now and again...
  3. Hmmm...good idea, Nidan1...but the burst looked very much like a point explosion, with some puffs looking much larger than others. This is what made me think about a successful AA attack. I haven't looked at the kill data on the AA vehicle to see if he might have been lucky...I'll check that tonight...thanks! One other Shturmovik note...I did a little searching this PM (other work-related sims running in the background!) and read one IL-2 history that said while just under 300 planes had been produced before Barbarossa, only 18 had been delivered to field units. Furthermore, factories in Moscow were relocated to beyond the Urals as soon as the invasion began. Any opinions on how realistic IL-2 use is in July '41 CMBB?
  4. Howdy all, I am playing an old B&T scenario against the AI, Porechye Bridgehead, as the Germans defending their gains across the Luga in July '41...I know, it's a gimme, but a little mindless defense against the AI can be fun now and again. Anyway...one of my Sdkfz 10/4 AA vehicles started firing at an IL-2 on a strafing run. Seconds afterwards, I saw a burst of puffy cotton-balls appear in the sky, looking just like a fireworks explosion. The three largest puffs fell to earth and damaged two of my vehicles. I've never seen this type of air attack before...or WAS it an air attack? Did the plane get hit and fall to the ground? I have no recollection of seeing an aircraft shadow continuing on its way across the map, although I unfortunately didn't keep a screenshot of the event. Anybody seen something like this before? Thanks for your ideas! PM
  5. Based on my reading of his rantings over in the forum subject "Poor scenario design", I wouldn't hold my breath...
  6. Well said, JasonC (as always...I really admire your attention to careful thought and detail -- despite the occasional and trivial spelling-based brain-fart...tsk-tsk-tsk, Mr. Dorosh). I suppose the greatest motive I have for playing a game like CM is to try and get a better understanding of what it was really like to fight a war in the East in the 1940's...to blindly assault a well-defended village on the steppe, or to see that massed wave of T-34s racing towards your prepared defensive position behind the shield of your 75mm ATG, or to watch your platoon get cut down by artillery in the open. I want the most historically realistic portrayal of Eastern Front combat I can get...and Quick Battles with bogus force composition ain't gonna do it for me. I only go for the "Historical" scenarios from the archives. My sincere thanks to all of you that have put your heart and soul into designing such great scenarios for CMBB. It's an amazing experience and, for me, it's the only way to go.
  7. Birdgunner et al., Thanks so much for checking this out and hunting these down...in a twisted kind of way, I'm glad the weirdness I found when digging through these scenarios originally is not just my imagination! Looking forward to getting clean versions of these and other scenarios. Thanks again to you and Philippe!
  8. Thanks! I had heard of Gordon's HT mods but couldn't find them at CMMods...and forgot about the old standby. And, by the way...Gordon, your work is amazing! Thanks again.
  9. Howdy all, The default scheme for this flak vehicle is three-color camouflage -- with LSSAH markings, no less. I'd like to find a standard early-war gray version at CMMods but can only find winterized mods. There's a CMAK-compatible gray version but I assume it won't work in CMBB. Anybody got any ideas? I'd give more information on the available mods but, unfortunately, CMMods appears to be down at the moment as I can't connect to it. Thanks for any help!
  10. Hmmm...so it sounds like something is indeed a bit fishy. Did Birdgunner have a hand in assembling the CMBB salvage files? I've noticed that it's his name on the CMAK files over at CMMods but your name is on the CMBB files. So that has me a bit confused. But at least I now know that it ain't just me...right, Philippe? Thanks for working on this...keep me (and us) posted!
  11. Philippe, Thanks so much for fielding this one...and sorry it's taken awhile to reply. Here's the scoop: Yes, the offending file has come from a Scenario Depot Salvage file. Both of the individual problem scenarios I've encountered came from Salvage Zip#2, so I re-downloaded this file from CMMods and repeated the extraction and installation procedure with the same negative results. The offending files are CSDT - B3 Bad Break and CSDT - B9 Death Trap. I've tried both WinZip 9.0 and the native WinXP Zipfile management utility with the same results. And yes, I think we're on the same page...I've downloaded the seven large Scenario Depot Salvage zipfiles, along with the eighth file containing the Excel database, from CMMods. My apologies for bothering y'all if this is a unique problem on my end...but I want to try and solve a larger issue if it exists. Thanks again, Philippe! Hope we can work this out.
  12. Hey everybody, First, a quick intro...while I've been reading these forums for more than a year -- and learning a tremendous amount in the process -- this is my first post. I've played CMBB for two years now (all against AI...I know, I know) after growing up on years of Panzerblitz, SL/ASL, etc. I've continually been amazed at the creativity, intellect and enthusiasm of this community. Your dedication (obsession?) to CM has made a great simulation even better! Oh, by the way, as an answer to the other long thread: I'm 43. OK, on to the issue at hand...I know this topic has been addressed here before, but maybe I have a new observation that can be of some help. I've been adding some new scenarios to my collection from the Scenario Depot Salvage zipfiles stored at CMMods, and I've noticed that a small percentage of files do not correctly install (i.e., show up in the scenario selection screen). I'm patched to 1.03, I know how to extract files and where to put them, yada yada yada. A brief inspection of these offending files in a simple text editor reveals a wad of extra data at the top of the file, including a statement of the filename complete with .cme extension. Good scenarios do not have this extra information. Is this a sign of file corruption? I'm assuming that one needs to edit these files in a hex editor? Is there somebody out there that can help rescue these files? I'd be happy to provide more scenario-specific detail and could e-mail an offending file to anyone willing to take this on. Thanks in advance for the help, and once again -- keep up the GREAT work!
