  1. I ONLY ran it on XP. Moon... SC1 is STILL selling? WOW! Be nice and give us an average number on a monthly basis say for 2008 if possible. I know about not revealing numbers and all but this game is so old and just an average for one year. POR FAVOR! .
  2. Nov 1944. Japan tank fights to the end and dies bravely while attacking the enemy. Another HQ falls in China and the allies rush for the North hoping to liberate China and Communist China. Peking is attacked by the Russians. Korea will be under Russian control next turn. The Japanese paratrooper jumps home but is damaged when landing and the allies pounce and destroy it. The Allies go a little nuts all over Japan this turn, they kill 3 other units, all air units and damage that ruthless anti air L2 unit down to 5. As well no need for atomic bombs, I think only 1-2 cities are producing over 3 MPPs. Protecting that little spot of Japanese land up north will be crucial, this is what hurt him the most, I probably took away over 2500 MPPs if not more just using my units up there. Although Japan might get a chance to sink one of my carriers as a fully loaded IJN carrier comes off the production line, although it has no tech I doubt one of my carriers will survive two attacks plus the surrounding air close by, even if that air is damaged. The liberation of the Philippines is under way. The british sport a brand new carrier, 2 DDs and 1BB.
  3. That unit is being bought back, USA was out of units too buy outside of BBs, CAs, DDs and Subs. In the mean time a US Heavy Bomber lands in Shanghai. Hong Kong is liberated, DEI liberated. Chungking is taken by the Allies, now we have to race all the way north if we wish to liberate China and Communist China. Korea will be under Soviet control next turn, heavy tanks are brutal and I only have L3. We officially kill our first unit on mainland Japan (TAC Bomber). I am sure he has plenty of units to take his place! That is going to be one heck of a fight. Philippines are still in Japanese hands.
  4. When the unit is surprised it still gets to retaliate, although since it is surprised that retaliation is reduced. So the way I see it does pretty much what you mention.
  5. My amphib units survives the attack and take overs Shanghai. Manchuko is liberated. Russia is piling on heavily and those heavy tanks are going to be quite useful for DDay PTO. We advance in West China, we take another city and US air power puts on a show and we think Chungking will be ours next turn.
  6. I run it on my iMac using VMWare and it is flawless. I am sure it would run on Linux with VMWare running XP as well.
  7. September 1944. We take away ALL convoys. Japan is alone in the night... Their last carrier makes a strike at one of my BBs, it was pretty beat up because it only caused 3 points of damage to my BB, when I move in to sink it it has STR 5 Carrier and STR 0 air. I also sink a sub. All I see now is 1 destroyer and 1 sub. But I have a carrier in range for one of them plus 3 japan air... so I know it is in danger. Russia is simply overpowering Japan, they really had no defenses prepared for the big bear as we take another city. In China we lose a unit but we manage to take another city and kill another unit so for the first time the casualties on the front are greater on Japan. Pretty good considering my air is still not in action but is now fully refited and ready for combat.
  8. It yes they do if they are in the spotting range of your air. So if you have long range technology and upgrade your units with it, you will get better spotting. If you send out your carriers you can find the enemy. The key is surrounding those carriers so they are protecting from attack.
  9. Yes well outside of updates which you seem too be in high gear of doing, good stuff!
  10. August 1944, China is held up due to rain and our units await air support since they are well aware of Japan's fierce infantry. Russia captures 3 cities in Manchuria. Russia is moving in ok and it still does not have all its heavy tanks on the front. A massive US fleet moves in to eliminate the convoy from China to Japan. We pretty much dare the IJN to come out for a fight. We send a naval battle group down to DEI, time to take this one back and we find just one bomber on the capital. Overall the US air power refits. Check out Japan in the screeshot and the front line in Western China.
  11. Actually he should play as Allies for maybe the first 3 games if you have ZERO SC series experience. This will give you a good feel of the overall game and then you can play as Japan without reading any of the scripts. It does not take long at all to know them (3-4 games) and once you do know them you will NEVER have any surprises (except for Diplomacy hits by the enemy) so those first few surprises are fun to experience.
  12. You have to turn off Fog of War and that does it for everything. No way of doing just for one part of the game.
  13. It should finish in 1945 and Colin's inexperience with where partisans pop up did give him a headache, how unprepared he was for my massive US air fleet up north and letting it destroy his convoy which is as much as 300mpp less each turn. I have to admit I exploited that because I knew he would most likely not have one unit on that village =) . IMO, he also spent way too many MPPs using amphibious troops to take islands that have zero value. Sure I could have put some bombers on there to spot but there is not much to spot and I get too spot later on as I need it with my LR Carriers. Playing Japan can be very fun because you dictate the game for the most part and even later on if you have prepared properly you can really frustrate the Allies even with all their superior tech. That hardest thing that players will have to learn as Japan is when you need to start thinking defense and where you will make stands to slow the Allies. I have not seen much of that in our game and I think Colin is now aware that he did not prepare for defense as he should have. Except for Japan which is packed like sardines with units.
  14. August 1945, the ships that took out my UK navy gets pulverized by the US Navy, plus I spot a BB in Taiwan (Intelligence hit) move a carrier to attack it and one IJN Carrier intercepts, my attack kills the BB I use my second for the CV and it goes down as well. I am pretty sure I have full command of the sea by now. In China we are at the gates of Chungking and little reinforcements are on the way for Japan , so 2 units, 1 HQ and one incoming tank are all that is left defending that area. We damage one unit pretty good and another that is on the city next to the mine. Or partisans unit moves from his city of 10mpps to take over that mine of 15mpps. Russia is on the offensive, with supply so poor for Japan in Manchuria even my no tech land units cause good damage to Japan's L2 IW. A couple of cities should fall next turn. Our air power up north of Japan keeps flattening Manchuria and keeping convoys out of the game. He is stacking units on Japan, filling in pretty much any spot to land on.
  15. Yep, even Germany was in the same situation. Although it could have sued for peace in a better position and probably held on to some lands.
  16. I have so far never looked at the scripts myself. It is quite fun to discover all these as you learn the game, it adds flavor, 3-4 games and you will most likely know all of them anyways.
  17. Nah, I am bleeding him in MPPs everywhere, that is why, hehe . USA is limited to 4 chits but I maxed that out right from the start of this game vs. Colin.
  18. We are in July 1944. In China we take the city just next to the Vietnam border. We move in next to Chunking but that one will be bloody for me as his units are experienced. My air will be key for that battle. We liberate part of Borneo. We take another island basically the whole chain east of Iwo Jima are under US control (so is Iwo Jima). My navy is totally chewing up his navy. I kill 2 battleships, 1 cruiser and 1 carrier with only 3 of my carriers. My extreme long range of air all over the place is making it impossible for him to hide. This was all done around the Philippines. Long range is simply key for both sides, if USA ends up with LR early and Japan does not have it trying to surprise the US navy is near impossible as you always see them coming. Basically if you do us Japan's navy actively, do it early and fast. If you have no LR tech then hide it very well for the end game invasion to help slow it down. The UK navy gets a small revenge for its earlier losses as west of the Philippines two UK battleships sink a cruiser. UK is back up to 5 ships after the initial navy was left 4 dead by the admiralty. In Russia my heavy tank kills 2 more units while my TAC kills one anti tank unit. My US bombers flatten a good part of Manchuria. 1945 is looking more and more like DDay PTO style.
  19. For sure if you wish to created your own mod you can easily remove AI diplomacy.
  20. You can make it historical but leave the option to invest in diplomacy, that falls within the reality of "what if" scenario. If USA or UK or both put 1000s of MPPs to try bribe USSR then let it be, it might just give Japan more breathing room or they might get lucky and have them join early. Diplomacy is a gamble.
  21. Why do that? It is a great option to use in some games. It cost a fortune to invest in USSR but if it pays off then it can make for some interesting alternatives.
  22. The Russians are weak in terms of armies but their level3 heavy tanks with 2 strikes do ok, we managed to kill 2 units and our US friends up north bomb the cities in Manchuko. Slow moving in China but progress is made as a couple of units are taken down. At sea USA shows their very long range tech and take out a battleship and a destroyer around the Philippines as we move in closer with our armada. We take Iwo Jima and two other small islands.
  23. HAHA! I never said anything during beta because I thought that was wanted. Sorry folks!
  24. I would not say it is a question of overkill (as Colin I states in our AAR), but a question of would it have been the reality? I think not in 1944, the Russians were pushing into Germany and seeing all those extra troops arrive in PTO seems out of place. I think they would arrive IF Japan were to move INTO Russian territory, those troops should arrive AFTER the Germany surrender. Basically I am agreeing with thetwo's post, a thorough explanation.
