  1. Michael, Perhaps I was too subtle. What I meant was, PP could very well be right, but the arrogance he adds is inappropriate and not welcome. You made the same point without the holier than thou attitude of PP, and kudos to you for that. When PP made reference to Rune's scenario doing a disservice to the veterans of the Beda Fomm fight he went way over the line, and there was not a drop of kindness in the remark, despite his "goodwill" statement to the contrary.

  3. Ahem, shall we refocus on AARs, tactics, and such?

  5. You sound incredibly magnanimous, but I have this strong feeling that there's academic arrogance involved. In fact, your reply is wormy with it. As far as I'm concerned you can stuff the false goodwill and go find another place to spout your vast knowledge. This thread belongs to me and the good folks at BFC, who've proven themselves time and again to be both excellent scholars and humble on the rare occasions they've discovered themselves wrong. You've proven yourself to be a supercilious ass.

  7. Based on feedback so far, I think after Beda Fomm I'll do one from Italy, with US Forces involved.
  8. How about two SOTWs? One from Sicily/Italy, one from North Africa/Crete/East Africa? And we'll continue chronologically, each front having its own timeline. Feedback?
  9. Rune or Madmatt, would you kindly bump this to the headline, replacing the SOTW Attack on Nibeiwa Fort?

  11. Spoiler!!! The one really good thing I did was leave all the MkVIb tanks behind the ridge line and wait for victory in the armor battle. The cruiser tanks gave about as good as they got, and the Matildas brought decisive victory. Only then did the MG tanks hit the scene to mop up the Italian infantry and no less than 60 vehicle crews who wandered the battlefield aimlessly. I divided my initial infantry into 3 columns, one toward each objective, and also waited behind slopes or hid in brush until the battle was nearly concluded. I had a couple of Italian crews surrender to my 25 pdr FO.

  13. I have no clue about the historicity of this one, but it was a blast to play. Do the words "67 vehicles destroyed" whet your appetite? What a fun shootin' match this was, and it also illustrated the disparities between weapons platforms. Play it, and let us know here how it comes out.

  15. Attack on Nibeiwa Fort has all but petered out. Beda Fomm sounds like a Star Wars location or character... another large battle. Who wants to jump in with an AAR or pre-game tactical analysis?

  17. Anyone out there playing this one PBEM or TCP/IP? A head to head game report would be especially valuable, since we have only 1-Player reports thus far. Also, how have the newbies done? Anything learned/applied by reading here?
  18. Regarding the original post: BFC has given every appearance of being intractable on the issue. In fact I think they said something along the lines of, "it would take a million men a thousand years" to make them change their minds and do the Pacific. Sounds like a job for the Marines.
  19. My ideas: 1. Use my TRPs on the sandbag positions, and snipe them as they raise their heads. 2. Advance the tanks in front of the infantry as a moving smoke screen. 3. Attack all on one side along a broad front, opposite the main gate. Didn't work out as planned, mainly because I ran into the mine fields and lost 8 tanks... 7 immobilized and 1 killed outright. Which left my infantry to mostly advance across the last 150 meters of open ground. Ouch. The reinforcement tank platoon raised some hell on the far side, with one tank penetrating to Maletti's HQ and making the general crap his pants. The tank kills 44 soldiers, a gun, and 4 tanks. The beehive really stirred up against it but it held out to the bitter end. I got a minor victory. 58-42, but it really is a loss, considering how many tanks went back to the repair shop, and how many infantry casualties I lost. Also, the Italians abandoned two of their own flags which they easily could have held, and that certainly would have given them a smashing victory. Fun scenario, and if the brits miss the minefields they can cause a lot of havoc with the Matildas.
  20. Exactly. AARs, and comments on strategy are welcomed. I am pretty close to posing a few ideas on Nibeiwa before I actually play. It's a whopping big scenario though.
  21. SOTW is "Scenario of the Week." Which is a major misnomer, since some of the time it will be every two or three weeks, depending on the size of the scenario. Spoilers will come when game reports start pouring in.
  22. First ever light speed shipping... I got my game yesterday, and the shipping email today. It got here before it left!
  23. Just right, Moon. I was actually a bit concerned because the scenario forum is more of a backwater. I'd like to see the topic have a good life of its own, and it seems the better place for in depth discussion of the scenarios of the game.
  24. That's fine. I wondered about that as well, and asked about it when I started the Fruhlingswind demo thread. Would it be possible and reasonable to headline a redirect message from here for a while? Thanks.
  25. Official kick-off of the Scenario of the Week. The only 1940 scenario in the bunch. Since it is a large scenario, let's take at least a couple of weeks to cover this one. Looks like we're in for a slug-fest.
