Question about tank battles.

Recommended Posts

So on my tanks and vehicles I have no idea what all this means (defence). helparmour.png

I tried hovering over them to hope for a tool tip but nope :o so I would like to ask you forum guys.

Also on one mission I had my M10 TD's in a hull down position but when it was aiming the where 2 messages depending on where it was aiming

"spotter is partial hull down"

What does this message mean as opposed to just hull down?

Thanks :D

So on my tanks and vehicles I have no idea what all this means (defence).

I'd summarize it as "Go look things up online." :) I find that easier - and more informative - than deciphering the "Defenses Report".

But here's my easy-to-remember rule of thumb for American tanks: Any anti-tank weapon can kill it from any direction.

Here's this from page 68 of the manual:

Hollow charge is the top line, small arms the bottom one.

Defenses Report - available for Vehicles only. Shows the vehicle’s ability to

defend against...

1. Hollow charge rockets (e.g. Bazooka, Panzerschreck, Panzerfaust)

2. Large caliber anti-tank rounds (e.g. 88mm)

3. Medium caliber anti-tank rounds (e.g. 50mm)

4. Small arms (e.g. Machineguns)

...against the

Front ............ >

Sides ............ ><

Rear ............. <

and Top. ....... v

The amount of threat posed by the various munitions is shown graphically as

Bad (small red x) , Poor (o) , Average (yellow o ) , Good (light green

square) , and Excellent (thick green square) .

"spotter is partial hull down"

I'd guess part of the hull is exposed, as opposed to just the turret being exposed relative to the spot your targeting. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will come along.

I think the message says "Partial hull down" because hull down in CMx2 is not binary the way it was in CMx1 -- an AFV can have more or less of its hull in defilade, depending on the exact height of the intervening terrain, the location of the target etc.

So I think BFC just included the word "partial" in the description to remind you that the hull down condition is a relative thing, and your may be more or less hull down, depending on details.

Would have been less confusing (is a bad threat a weak one or a scary one?) written as:

The level of protection from the various munitions is shown graphically as

Bad (small red x) , Poor (o) , Average (yellow o ) , Good (light green

square) , and Excellent (thick green square) .

(My emphasis)
