Bemused
Hi all, Got thinking about the way I am reacting to AI controlled barrages while playing one of the campaigns today (yet to try PBEM). I tend to run entire platoons away at top speed as soon as I see spotting rounds coming in. When I can manage this I survive with few to no casualties. Is this at all historical? I doubt units would take the initiative this way at least under orders - I guess they might rout. Would be interested in some informed thinking about this.
winkelried
Hi all, I tend to run entire platoons away at top speed as soon as I see spotting rounds coming in. probably the only thing you can do. except if you find some better cover - behind a wall/bocage/house a bit farther away. to get caught by artillery in the open or even worse in forests (treebursts) is the ugliest thing that can happen to you - even in real life.
CptAnalysis
Back in the '70s when I was wearing green, running away to fight another day was preached. Just like dropping into the ROTC crouch was a sure way to get shot, sticking around to check where the arty rounds fell was deemed a great way to add to the casualty rolls.
