New instal-Licence question

Recommended Posts

I bought CMSF when it came out and put it on my old laptop.

Around ver 1.11 my GFX card broke and my laptop died; however, i pulled out the old hard drive and I still have the base file.

My replacement laptop could never handle newer games, so I just waited.

Now I have a new, more capable laptop.

How in the world am I going to un-license the old install so I can reload CMSF on my new laptop?

***************

Oh man this gets even more confusing.

I re-install, and that works.

Then I patch to 1.10, no prob.

THEN...

I patch to 1.21, and I see the option to put the extra modules in, which I do.

Now, I haven't been following CMSF for some time, so I didn't know these modules were required to be purchased. It seemed, to me, they were just part of the patch.

I have no intention of buying the extra modules until I see how the game plays at 1.21.

But now I can't play the game at all. In fact, I'll have to uninstall the whole thing and start over, But I can't remove the license from the game to do that.

WOW! what a hassle--the un-license program thinks I'm trying to un-license the British module whenever I click the base CMSF un-license.

How do I do this?

Actually, it works perfectly fine, HintJ, if you follow the instructions correctly. The patch allows you to choose which components to update. You have (incorrectly) chosen to update the base game and the modules, even though you do not have the latter. This installs different executables and follows a different unlicense logic than if you only have the Plain Jaine base game. Hence, your unlicensing broke by installing the patch incorrectly.

The workaround for this would be to simply re-run the patch, and this time choose the right components (in your case, just "Update CMSF" and nothing else). Then you unlicense function will work again.
