tyrspawn
Does anyone know what sort of operations the rangers were partaking in after suppression of enemy air defenses and capturing of air fields during Operation Enduring Freedom? After immediately landing on the ground, destroying air defenses and assembling their forces in place, what did they do next? Did they become advisors and help northern alliance/anti-taliban forces or did they serve some other purpose? I am trying to come up with missions ideas and couldnt' find much information. If they became advisors, what would be the TO&E for that?
Clavicula_Nox
QRF, mostly. Almost exclusively QRF. The emphasis in 2001 was on the smallest possible American/Western footprint. The unit that jumped into tv cameras was actually pulled out of country shortly after the jump, and there wasn't a large contingent of Rangers in country. *edit* And in most cases, requests for the Ranger QRF were denied anyways so, really, to answer your question: "A whole lotta nuthin'"

snake_eye
Hi, Tyrspawn, About the Rangers in Afghanistan, have a look at the following book from Sean NAYLOR "Not a Good day to Die" The untold story of operation Anaconda, march 2002. Many guys having gone through the Rangers schools are told upon. However, since the Rangers were deployed on specials operations and in small groups after 2001, they were found in some Quick reaction Force. In the Anaconda operation such a QRF lead by Nate SELF was heavily engaged on Takur Ghar on the high Shahicot valley to rescue a Seal team Mako 30 (another excellent book about that ordeal : Roberts Ridge by Malcom MacPherson). Cheers
