John Kettler
Caught this very well done depiction of 3rd ACR's fight before the 2005 elections to break AQ's iron grip on the strategic city and allow the city and citizenry to operate in something like a normal manner. Highly pertinent to CMSF in that it has CQB, wall breaches, snipers on both sides, M2 CFVs AFVs not just as protected firepower but as protective devices/instant cover during troop extraction, VBIEDs, fearsome firefights, tacair via OH-58Ds and more. This area has personal meaning for me because my now retired brother's unit (the first SBCT to see combat) was there during OIF and aftermath. That little measle on a map is a sprawling rabbit warren of hidey holes and wicked crossfires. Regards, John Kettler
souldierz
I'm trying to find some documentaries on this one and it seems like there was a series made about this battle.I can't find anything yet and I don't get the military channel so I'm still looking while I get the chance. I did find a small tense sniper scene described in this battle. http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/combat-zone-battle-of-tal-afar-part-1.html Clever use of smoke, and what a bad spot to try and get casualties from.My heart dropped when i saw those ANA climbing the water tower. Not a good move at all, poor guys.
