LivewireRC
I used to play Combat Mission quite a bit in the past and have recently re-installed it but I cannot for the life of me get it to work on my new PC. It's specs are as follows: Windows XP SP2 1x Opteron 246 (2.0Ghz) Asus SK8N Mobo 4GB PC2700 ECC Reg RAM 128MB Geforce FX 5900 XT (6.1.77 drivers) 250GB SATA HD Any time I try starting the game all I get is a black screen. I can alt-tab out of it, but I hear no sound and no other keys have any effect on the game. I've tried all the suggestions I've found in the troubleshooter and online including turning off anti-aliasing, deleting the starting .avi, dumbing down my resolution, etc with no luck at all. I am running the latest Nvidia drivers and I'm able to run pretty much any other game on this setup (Doom3, GTA:VC, FarCry). Any ideas y'all? Thanks, Jason
Schrullenhaft
Uninstall your 61.77 Nvidia drivers, reboot and go with whatever Windows installs (possibly a 'VGA Save' Safe Mode driver). Download and install the 56.72 Forceware driver. Hopefully this may make a difference. Most people don't have problems with 61.77, but perhaps you and some others do. I highly suggest to make sure that nothing else is running in the background. Also make sure that your monitor has its profile installed... "Default Monitor" can be a problematic profile. I don't know if any of the NVidia NForce drivers (such as IDE) can be a problem here. Typically if they were you would probably run into other problems outside of CM. Is this the only CM game that you play/own ? If not do the other CM titles have problems ?
Tifosi
I had this problem and found a sort of fix. If you load the game you want to play, load it, alt-tab out, load a different CM game (any, it didn't seem to matter) then exit it straight away. Go back to the game you are trying to play and it works. Even odder, though - I finally got around to installing MSWorks, and after installing this all my black screen problems seem to have vanished. Go figure?
