CM won`t start (hilfe)

Recommended Posts

installed np. click on icon to start, and the main graphic appears for a few secs... then disappears. what`s going on?

1.2ghz amd, Nvideo Geforce2Ti 64mb, opengl, dx8.1, 640mb ram... I can`t think of anything that could be wrong.

Installed same thing on a friends laptop to test and it starts fine. Gfx are all stuffed up on his `cos it`s an old laptop but at least it proves it works.

any help/advice appreciated... hanging out to play this game.

right, trawled through the forums earlier as well, so better tell yuo I`ve tried making the desktop 800x600 (16bit)... no difference (boot screen appears then goes). Checked what apps were running in the task manager and cm wasn`t one of them.

also forgot to mention I`m running XP Pro.

If I can`t get it working I`ll have to take it back to EB.

I'm not really familiar with the CDV release of CMBO. I believe that it plays a quick AVI movie before loading up the main screen. Is this what you're seeing ? What video drivers do you have installed ? Windows XP comes with v. 12.40 of the NVidia drivers, which should work, but they do have problems with some of CM's graphics and text.

DO NOT install any patches you find at Battlefront.com for your version. You already have the 1.12 version with your CD and if you install the 1.12 patch you won't be able to play the game.

I don't know the installation options for the CDV release; did you perform a 'full install' to the hard drive ? We've also seen some occasions where certain CDROMs, IDE controllers and Windows XP prevent the CD from being seen correctly for CMBO. The CDV release of CM uses a different copy protection scheme and I'm not sure if it has similar problems or not. Sometimes the fix for the CDROM incompatibility is to run the application in 'Windows 2000 compatibility mode' (accessible from the Properties menu when you right-click on the executable). Any other compatibility mode (other than None) may actually prevent CM from working.

If you run the DirectX Diagnostic (Start Menu > Run > type C:\PROGRAM FILES\DIRECTX\SETUP\DXDIAG > Display tab > a 'Test DirectDraw' and a 'Test Direct3D' button will be available to test DirectX). Also check to see if all three settings are enabled under this tab too.

Thanks Schrullenhaft.

I tried the directX thing you said... it didn`t work because the exe wasn`t there. I had a look and although the folder had been installed, there was nothing inside of it.

So I did a search for all `directx` stuff on the pc, found it elsewhere, copied and pasted the .exe into the folder it was missing from. Had to assign it to the proper file though of course.

Went through all the tests np.

e`voila... it worked. the game started with the boot screen, then asked me to accept the directx settings. The only glitches the game has now is the mission and briefing text is pretty unreadable... the characters take on the colours of the screen beforehand, and/or have new text on top of old text..

but at least the game runs smile.gif

cheers for your help and hope this helps out anyone else with the same probs.

To get rid of the problems that you're seeing you need to install some newer drivers. The NVidia drivers for the GeForce series that comes with WinXP is based on the 12.40 drivers. These drivers have problems with white being transparent, which is what you're seeing.

Install the 28.32 or later beta drivers. You can get these from NVidia or any of the driver sites like Guru3D, Maxreboot, etc.
