November 18, 1941 through December 30, 1941"Operation Crusader" is the name given to the final days of the siege of Tobruk where the British 8th Army attempted to relieve the garrison of soldiers that had held a perimeter of defense around the Libyan city of Tobruk. The Allied forces led by Lt. Gen Alan Cunningham were ultimately turn back, but Rommel's use of the Africa Special Purpose Division and the 21st Panzers prevented him from advancing into Egypt until December 23 by which time the Afrika Korps was at its weakest strength and headed directly toward Montgomery's forces at El Alamein.
