Battlefront Repository Posted May 23, 2009 Share Posted May 23, 2009 By Mid-September 1942 Friedrich von Paulus 6th Army had pushed the Soviet forces in front of Stalingrad back until the latter only occupied a nine-mile long strip of the city along the Volga, and this strip was only three miles wide. On september 13th a massive german attack began. Supported by artillery and the luftwaffe, von Paulus troops swept into Stalingrad. The experienced german troops quickly drove the defenders back deeper into the city after furious house-to-house fighting.
