CM Locks-Up/Mouse Pointer

Recommended Posts

During game play the program locks-up and I am unable to get out of the program. Sometimes I can play for a few minutes(5-10 min) before it locks-up.

Another problem I am having with the program is that during game play the mouse pointer changes to a box of pixels or disappears al together and I am unable to activate anything on the screen.

My system meets all recommendations.

Assuming that you're playing on a PC:

In regards to your mouse pointer you will want to make sure that you are using the "default" Windows pointers and not a custom set. You will also want to turn off any screen savers and "themes". CM doesn't like the custom cursor shapes and this can lead to corrupt appearing cursors within CM. You may also want to check if there are any newer drivers for your mouse if you're not using the Windows default drivers.

You may want to provide some additional details on your system, like which version of Windows you're running and what video card and sound card you have installed. The general recommendation would be to upgrade you drivers for both items.

If you're overclocking your video card or CPU you may have to bring the clock speed down to the manufacturer suggested levels. CM is a bit sensitive to overclocking, especially on the video card.

Should I think about investing in a new system or video card?

Thank You for your help.

Your video card is a Jaton. Which should have relatively good drivers, however they aren't the latest. The latest driver for the Riva128 series (v. 3.41) you can get here (nVidia doesn't have it posted for some reason):

Reactorcritical (go to Riva 128 section):

The video driver can cause some of the mouse problems that you are seeing, but unfortunately there's no guarantee that this driver upgrade will fix your problem. In fact find an installable copy of the driver you are currently using in case this latest one causes other problems.

On this Reactorcritical download page there is also a "tweak" utility you may be interested in downloading. I'm not sure what features it supports, but it may be worth looking into.

Are you using a "standard" Windows mouse driver or do you have a custom driver (Logitech, Microsoft, etc.). Sometimes these drivers cause problems with the cursor within CM. If you are using one of these drivers you may want to check the latest driver update for them.
