Game Suggestion: Concurrent Blue/Red AI Plans.

Recommended Posts

I think it would be really cool if you could have some of your own forces controlled by the AI in a scenario. For instance, your briefing might say that you are to throw a cordon around a target building whilst special forces assault it (like the Rangers did in "Black Hawk Down"). In game, you would order your men to engage the enemy around the building but would also catch glimpses of other friendly forces under AI control carrying out the assault and would have to avoid causing friendly fire casualties on the AI controlled force.

In theory I would think this wouldn't be too hard to do. I mean, I've accidentally ended up on a side in which the AI is controlling the men, due to a bug to do with QBs. The AI editor would have to be altered to allow the friendly forces AI plan to be used but I reckon this could be done with a simple check-box such as "Friendly AI?". Any forces with an AI plan with this flag set would be uncontrollable by the player. For times when you want to play the other side, you would have an alternative AI plan with the "Friendly AI?" flag unchecked.

What do people think of this idea?

I agree, Steiner. In the TOW forum I suggested something similar where you could have access to more advanced AI maneuvers rather than just the generic "move over here" and "shoot at that". Actual complex maneuver commands accessible from a hotkey.

Some really liked the idea, while others said they didn't want the game "to play for them", which, of course, is not what i had in mind at all.....

My idea was that you could have maybe a half dozen programmable hotkeys with complex squad maneuvers and possibly even the option to edit them for different effects.
