Aquila
I'm playing a PBEM-game against a friend of mine. This is our first try at PBEM so probably our problem comes through a stupid n00b mistake we make and can be solved easily. Anyway, we both have cmbb ver 1.01. We started a qb meeting engagement 1500pts, everything went well, we could purchase our troops and place them on the map. We also could issue our first orders. No problems until then. Since I was the one who started the game, I was the first to watch the action replay. Everything went fine, I sent the new file to my friend, but he couldn't open it. No error message or such, cmbb just doesn't open the pbem file. We retried several times, always to the same result. The same happens when I tried to open it on my PC. We both have never experienced any problems in play against the AI, so it must be an pbem specific problem. Strange thing is, why can we play up to this specific point without any problems and suddenly the file just won't open anymore?
Schrullenhaft
If the file is corrupt often there will be a 'ding' sound associated with it (or whatever error sound might be appropriate for the OS). I suggest zipping/compressing all PBEM files (the 'zip' format should work cross platform). This typically makes them quite a bit smaller and avoids some of the corruption that email and web clients can do to files interpreted as ASCII.
Aquila
In fact there is a an error sound when you try to open the file. But we didn't transfer the file via e-mail but through the dcc-protocol of irc. Of course this could lead to a corruption too, but strange thing is that the error always occurs on the end of the first turn when the second player wants to watch the action sequence.
Schrullenhaft
Perhaps you should attempt to email or IM the files (in zipped format) and see if your problem continues. I have no idea what an IRC client will do to the CM PBEM files, but corruption sounds like a distinct possibility.
