Schrullenhaft
I have an SiS 315 based videocard that I can check out. My testing with other SiS chips suggests that this particular graphics chip should work with CM. I've recently tested some related graphics chips and they've worked with CM perfectly (though not as high performance as a GeForce). I'll find a machine and try it out with XP to see how it works. I'll primarily try out CMAK since it will have the most graphics features and should resemble CMBB in the driver's ability to support the game.
Schrullenhaft
OK, I've checked this out and I believe I see what your friend is seeing. If you install the SiS provided 3.51a drivers (driver version 6.14.10.3511) the 3D screen of CM will not appear until you do an Alt-Tab to minimize and then re-maximize. At that point you'll see the shredded and flashing 3D screen (thought the 2D portion is fine and experiences no problems). SiS has unfortunately screwed up their drivers - which are most likely the last version that they'll release. The default driver that installs with XP (at least XP SP1) is version 5.13.01.2000 (also numbered 5.1.2001.0) and that works fine with CM. Windows Update provides an even newer driver, v. 6.13.10.2061. This also works fine with CM (fog, alpha-blending, etc.). But the latest (last) SiS 315 driver completely screws up the 3D game of CM. I suggest that your friend uninstall the SiS driver from the Add/Remove Applications control panel, and then reboot. Windows should eventually detect and install the SiS 315 driver that it has. After this, then run the Windows Update and get the latest driver. I have no idea if SiS will fix this or not. The 315 chipset is discontinued and support/development for it has probably ceased at SiS. In fact most of the graphics intellectual property was spun off into a company called XGI (which is a bunch of Trident Microsystems engineers), which has just started selling their line of videocards (Volari). If your friend wants to try his luck, he could download drivers from Joytech which makes the SiS 315 videocard I have (Apollo series). This driver is older and it may work. I don't know if it is any newer than what Microsoft has on the Windows Update site (edit: it is older than the update, but slightly newer than the default driver that comes with XP, it's v. 5.13.01.2020).
