athlete
Trying to make data transfer's between my bud and myself as fast as possible...using a dial up (me) to ADSL (him) connection right now. Wondering if one can, and how one would dial direct into his PC and if it would make things faster? Thoughts?
rune
Direct dial will not work unless you took the time to become a workstation on his workgroup, and the bottom line it would be the same speed, as the dialup is the slowest part of the equation. Schrullenhaft
On top of that, if you're running at a connection speed above 33.6K/sec you'll max out at 33.6K when you directly connect to someone else. 56K speeds depend on some digital signaling between you and your ISP via the phone company (which requires special hardware on your ISP's end). A direct dialup connection long distance (or even local) wouldn't have this extra 'digital signalling' and result in a maximum pure analog speed of 33.6K (or slower).
