If I remember correctly, it was mentioned that

multiplayer files size will be much bigger and therefore this will seriously impact transfer times and even put in doubt the implementation of PBEM or even TCP/ip game modes in CMx2. For many of us TCP/ip was the way to enjoy the CM series all these years and I really hope that we will not see any degradation of the current system.
