CMBB crash problem. Help!

Recommended Posts

I've been out of country for two years away from a computer so when I returned one of my first actions was to buy CMBB special edition from the store because I really enjoyed CMBO. The game installed just fine and it loaded correctly as well. But when I get to the main screen and select "start game," the game crashes and kicks me back out to windows. I tried re-installing and updating my directx to the newest version but all in vain. My system runs CMBO just fine so I doubt it has anything to do with system requirements. Any help or suggestions? You'll be helping a very frustrated gamer. Thankyou!

Just a thing to try first:

Try again with anti-virus disabled (have read about problems with McAfee enabled)

It seems some files are missing because the main screen loads ok....check if all scenario's are in the scenario folder (read about problems with that)

If this fails, Schrullenhaft have to answer you....

Get the same problem, random crash on my system, fresh install of the game got my copy yesterday..

Don`t have any virus program running in the Background, play tons of game including Call of Duty, Medal of Honnor, DAoC, Anachy Online and many many more and not one crash to desktop..

System : AMD Athlon 2000+ 1.67 MHz

Ram 1.0 Go

TI4200 128 megs with latest driver

The game just crash at random time, can play a full scenario np, but other times 5 minutes in the games or 2 minutes on the game and the game crash and my system reboot..This is getting very frustrating to say the least..

greenhorn - as Monty indicated, if you can't see any scenarios in the main listing, then this may indicate that CM didn't completely install. This was usually an issue with some of the first CD's created for Battlefront and some CD/DVD drives. The CMBB Special Edition is actually a CDV product (and hence can't use any of the patches on the Battlefront website, though this edition doesn't need an update since it is already 1.03). I'd guess that an incomplete install isn't your problem.

I suggest that you make sure nothing is running in the background, including any Instant Messaging apps, anti-virus programs, etc. The idea is to make sure that nothing is interfering with CM. What resolution are you running at and what video card (and driver version) are you running ?

Gliviel - the randomness of your problem makes it hard to troubleshoot. Do you run into this problem playing the same scenario (i.e. - it crashes playing it once, does it crash playing it again) ? Does the size of the scenario make any difference in the frequency of this problem ? Are your other games running in DirectX or OpenGL mode ? CM is also more sensitive to overclocking than other programs may be. So if you're overclocking your video card or CPU you may see more crashes with CM than other apps.
