Monwar
I have a wooden MG bunker ~170 m away which is being fired at by a platoon of British Aribrone and a Vickers MG. Is it possible that it would get knocked out this way?
flamingknives
I've certainly seen casualties caused by small arms fire (I think it was a Vickers MMG) in a bunker. Presumably it can therefore knock it out too. IIRC, a bunker is modelled as a vehicle with a section (firing slit) having 0 mm of armour and therefore vulnerable to SA fire.
Michael Emrys
If you have a 3" mortar around, it can take it out. But best bet is a tank. Second best is an AT gun if one can be brought to bear. Does anyone know if a PIAT can do the job? Seems like it should. Michael
lazysack
yup, a PIAT works fine.. Just don't try it from the front..
JasonC
You are very unlikely to hurt the bunker with mere small arms, including a Vickers. Much better is any form of direct fire AT style weapon. A PIAT will do the trick as others have mentioned. Mortars and FOs aren't good at it (though in CMBO only, the wooden ones only are pretty wimpy, and a direct hit even by mid-sized HE can do it). A light tank or AA gun is the best counter.

OK Jason and lazysack, should I try to hit the bunker with the PIAT from front. My PIAT can now get a target line to it with 4% hit chance. So I won't use it now. But can a PIAT actually take out an wooden MG bunker from front?
klapton
I have seen a bazooka take a pillbox from the front (through the firing slit), so I guess a piat can take a wooden bunker.
YankeeDog
IAT (PIAT, zook, etc) are perfectly capable of taking out a wooden bunker from the front. The problem with this tactic is that it puts the IAT team in the line of fire of the MG bunker. Unless the team KOs the bunker on its first or second shot, chances are the bunker (and any other enemy with LOS) will direct all their fire on the threatening IAT team, and it won't get any more shots off. You're probably a bit better off attacking from the front with a PIAT - they have a smaller firing signature and so are less likely to be spotted when firing. Bunkers spot pretty darn well to their front, so I doubt you'll get more than two shot off before the PIAT is spotted, though. Cheers, YD
lazysack
Yup, you have to flank pill-boxes with bazookas and PIATs, otherwise you're toast..
Panzertruppe
Yep....in play testing my scenario "Crossbow" ( At the Scenario Depot) both PIAT and grenades work well on taking out a wooden bunker. The PIAT did take out a bunker from the front as did grenades, but more often with success from the flank then the front. JasonC
1. Put 2-3 light mortar smoke rounds in front of bunker. 2. Move PIAT to a covered location ~100m from the bunker during the smoke. 3. When the smoke clears, shoot the bunker with the PIAT. 4. Resume your advance.
