1FSTCAT
I mentioned the filter to Dan the other day, and his response was "where would we get a definitions list"? My question to Dan is: while your 11 year old is playing DiF, do you really want him exposed to the occasional "Cr**, Fu**, and Sh**" that I've seen posted recently? Make up your own definitions. I'll type them for you, if it's a time issue. Even if it's only a few words long, it will let people know that this is a family game and cursing is not coshire. Also, several people have mentioned a friends list. I think this is a good idea. If you have someone toggled as a friend, they sort to the top of the players list, maybe with a different colored name.
tornado
Both are excellent suggestions IMHO.
Sixxkiller
I am against a filter! When I find me a pirate, I want to communicate in his language.
Dan Verssen
I like the filter and friends ideas. I'm thinking they would either have to be manually coded, or maybe we could use some kind of pre-made package. Brian would have to be the judge on how best to do something like this. Fred19
This sounds like an extreme example of PC and I hate that. Come on guys, there's a world out there and every single 11 years old knows the terms mentioned above from the kindergarden. They don't have to learn them by playing DIF for sure. This PC thing is the sickest ideology since Nazism and Kommunism (and Kapitalism of course).
Guest Mike
Thre's nothing new about ppl trying to stop kids hearing (or reading) dodgy language, and while my 9 and 11 yr olds certainly know about swear words they also don't use them and know that if I do then there's something drastically wrong!! I'm happy for them to stay that way for a while - they can assimilate knowledge of how teh world works at their own rate - there's nothing PC about raising kids right! Fred19
If you don't want to have your kids reading it, don't let them to the computer without your guidance. But don't continue to tear down the freedom of speech.
Guest Mike
I don't let them near my computer without guidance, and I'm not fdoing anything to limit your speech - I can't control it at all - but I want to control what prints on my computer - you say what you want - I'll delete what I don't like on MY computer. you have the right to say it, and I have the right not to see or hear it - what's the problem? Fred19
I could have expressed my intention better in my native language: Not was my critic aimed at you personally, but at that PC as an ideology. And filtering out certain terms that are currently banned by the mullahs of the PC regime is NOT what I consider the freedom of speech.
Fred19
Ah wait. This filter should be a feature that you can turn on and off on your very personal computer? It's not a default thing provided by the server? Then it's okay for me.
Sixxkiller
Hi Fred, What your main flaw in your arguement is that this is not a free speech server, this is a private server. Free speech doesnt apply to private entities. Also it is a crime in the US to cuss in front of anyone under the age of 18. Plus for everyone else but pirates, its just better to let individual parents not have to worry about thier kids when playing DIF. -Ray
Fred19
Hmm, and I thought freedom of speech belonged to human rights. Are there really people out there who think that their children get harmed when they read f*** or sh** or something like that while playing DIF? Sorry, but this world isn't paradise for sure and it won't help to close eyes and pretend that it is.

Sixxkiller
Fred, So you are among the people that thinks free speech actually applys to everything you say do you? So if you think that its ok to cuss, I bet you dont care if your kids watch porn. And if you are going to argue that cussing and porn are different, well nope, they are both protected by "free speech." And in your job, are you allowed to run around cussing? How fast would they fire you for using the F-word to a customer? You cant run through an airport and yell "bomb" or I'm a terrorist! You cant cuss out a cop for too long without being arrested. So my conclusion for you is you have the right to say whatever you want, but there are consequences for some speech. But yes kids do know these words but you also have to understand others rights to wanting a safer place for them to play.
Fred19
I understand your point of view. I'm not saying that it's okay to run around and saying those words all day long (and I certainly don't do that), but this is the world we live in and we have to deal with it. My opinion is, there must be a better way than censorship. My son is 10 years old.
Guest Mike
And you'd be happy with him in a chat that was completely uncensored??
Sixxkiller
Well honestly I dont think it matters if we have a censor program here as the VAST majority here are gentlemen and I think this is one of the absolute best gaming communities on the net. -Ray
Fred19
I agree with you, Sixx. Never noticed one of those words here (though I'm not hanging around here much too often lately cause my job prevents me from doing that). SO: Of course I wouldn't be happy with what you described. I simply wouldn't let him near the computer while there's such a thing going on (he doesn't have his own computer and I'm glad he's much more interested in sports). And I don't allow him to watch movies which in my eyes are too "heavy" for his age.
