I am a big fan of the card version of DiF and was wondering how the campaign system will translate into the computer version of the game. Will players still be making resource choices and drawing for random missions, or is something new in the works?

Also, when playing player vs. player in a campaign, will you be able to save in the middle and resume at a later time? Depending on which campaigns are included this would be a great feature as some of the campaigns (Guadalcanal, for instance) can take a long time to complete.

Can't wait for this to come out, best of luck to Dan and Battlefront in putting together a quality adaption of DiF!

Hello Scott,

The computer campaigns are different than the card game campaigns. The card game had more of an abstract feel, the computer game is less abstract.

My goal with the computer campaigns was to focus more on the pilots and aircraft.

Some examples...

The campaign map is broken down into regions. Usually about 2 to 5. Each campaign "Day" a target for one player is assigned to each region. It is then up to the attacker to send bombers and escorts to that region, and for the defender to send interceptors to that region. VPs are earned for the campaign based on each mission's outcome.

In the computer campaigns an imporant decision is how far to fatigue your pilots. On the one hand, having lots of planes in the air each Day is good. On the other hand, having them be fatigued and easy to shoot down is bad.

In the card game you were flying aircraft that didn't belong to you. In the computer game, you get a set of pilots to fly the campaign. As they get fatigued or killed it effects what you have to work with in later missions.

The card game threw in a random factor for drawing bomb cards. Depending on the draws, this could have a big effect on a mission that was out of the player's control. In the computer game, each bomber delivers a set number of bomb points to the target, depnding on whether it is damaged or not.

The computer game is played mission by mission, and all data is saved until both players have a chance to play again.

Campaigns can also be played solitaire against the computer.

Sounds like you are taking full advantage of the computer medium to enhance your game, Dan. The campaign system was always the meat and potatoes of the card game IMHO, and it looks like it's lost none of that tasty goodness in this version.

You say you have taken out the randomness of bombing. Any changes to the randomness of flak?

My anticipation grows! smile.gif

We removed flak from the campaign games.

This was another one of those areas that really effected the mission and campaign outcomes, but was out of the hands of the players.

We might add resourses and flak back in at a future time, but it will be with an eye toward keeping them under player control, rather than as a randomizier thrown into the game.

One of my main goals of the new game is to place as much control in the hands of the players as possible.
