Bromley
I keep seeing that when you've lost a unit that wasn't surrounded, you can buy it back at a reduced rate. I've never noticed this in vs. AI games. Is it a MP-only feature and how does it work?
Blashy
No, a unit with an * next to it means it will cost you 40% less. It needs to have a supply of 5 or higher.
Gérard Le Poer Trench
well that's just ridiculous if an army is destroyed or routed it will leave all it's supply behind. when it is surrounded the enemy steals it supplies. this kind of rebuying doesn't make sense. Bromley
I think the theory is that when we kill a unit in SC2, in most cases the majority of the men (and minority of the equipment) survive. They're just destroyed as a fighting unit, but can form the core of a new unit. @Blashy. Thanks. I take it the * is seen in the purchase/build screen? Also, does it only apply to ground units or are air and naval included?
Canuck_para
The cheaper cost reflects that not the whole unit was destroyed but lost its cohesion as a fighting force. The BEF lost its eqpt in France but the men got back to the UK and were reorganized.
Blashy
Yes in the purchase screen. Canuck para has the right take on the intent of less cost rebuild.

Iron Ranger
Good question, is this only on soft builds or does it effect Naval and Air as well?
pzgndr
This feature is for land units only, regardless of the soft build limits option. Clash of Steel had a similar feature, where rebuilds were only 40%. The theory is that units become combat ineffective at about 40% losses, so replacing these losses for supplied units is reasonable. Further consider it like a retreat feature in SC2, where the surviving unit cadre retreats to be rebuilt at reduced cost and production delay.
