Mr Democracy
Hi, I hope that someone can help me out here. When I start up Combat Mission in any Direct3D mode I get very strange effects. The main screen appears blank until I click around, it will then (sometimes) appear. I can get to the choose scenario screen, but this displays "scanning for scenarios" until I click, at which point I get the list to choose from. I can select a scenario (although the mouse behaves strangely, often selecting a different scenario to the one I clicked on) but then pressing the start scenario button causes the whole thing to lock up. I realise that this sounds like a mouse problem, but the game works fine in software mode and I do not use any of the mouse interfaces (Microsoft / Logitech) which are indicated as problems in the FAQ. For the record my mouse is a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. P3 750, 128Mb RAM, running Windows XP Pro. The video card is (I am told) fully Direct3D compatible and is a Trident Video Accelerator CyberBlade-XP v6.4022-003.22 (16Mb version). I have the latest driver (according to the Toshiba website) for the video card, the driver being version 5.1.2527.125 (dated 28/08/2001). Thanks, I love this game and really want to be able to play it on my machine. Jamie
Schrullenhaft
Are you speaking of CMBO or the CMBB Demo ? I've seen a similar issue with a Trident Blade 3D (9880) and the CMBB Demo. This also occurs with the Voodoo 1, 2 & Banshees. Unfortunately as far as I can tell it is a bit of a display driver problem. The driver isn't updating/refreshing the screen properly. I'm not sure if a patch can be made to get around this problem with certain drivers. Alt-Tab'ing to the desktop may help refresh the screen, but the solution (as you've discovered) usually involves randomly clicking around on the screen until a button/selection is hit upon. Then the screen will refresh (until the next selection/screen). I haven't found anything to really correct this problem in the other video cards. No DirectX, PowerStrip or other tweaker setting has changed this behavior including the speed slider settings (I can't remember where the equivalent setting is in XP). The only thing that corrected it for the Voodoo Banshee was to downgrade to an older manufacturer specific driver (but that driver had a problem running the 3D portion of CM). I believe that BTS/BFC might take a look at this issue for CMBB, but again, I'm not sure what can really be done about it. If you're experiencing this with CMBO, then unless a driver update comes out to fix it, you'll have to live with the workaround.
Mr Democracy
Thanks for looking into the problem. In answer to your question it is the full version of Beyond Overlord that I am playing. Jamie
