CM wont run HELP !!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi

As some of you know i am new to this game so it must be some thing im doing wrong , i can play the game only in 1600x1200 but when i change screen res the game stops just after the intro , if i press ESC it goes to the desk top with Combat missions at the bottem in the toolbar , when i click on this it then goes to the main menu of but i see lines coming off the letters going right ( is there any way to do a screen shot and post this ? ).

My PC is an AMD 2000xp

512 meg ddr mem

Windows 98 se

GF 4 ti 4400 ( 30.00 drivers )

Sound blaster audio 16 PCI

AGP ( in bios )set at 128

Any thing else i need to add ?

When i play the game at 1600x1200 i think its great , the detail of the tanks etc etc is superb , if CM 2 is as good as this i will be getting that as well .

Thanks in advance

CMBO adopts the screen resolution from your desktop when it is started the very first time and saves this into the prefs file.

When you have the intention to run CMBO at another screen resolution, you'll have to delete this file first:

combat mission bynd ovr prefs

Afterwards you can change your screen resolution and start CMBO.

Hi

Thanks for the tip , ive done that plus done the space bar trick but still no joy , when i use the space bar to cancel out the intro all i get is a black screen , but it works fine in 1600x1200 mode , hmmmmm strange . it runs ok in this res but im worryied that if i try a large battle then the game will slow down , its been fine so far .

Ohhh one last thing , does it use the 32 bit mode from the desk top ( which mines set to ) or does the game run in 16 bit ?

Thanks for all your help , this is a great friendly forum .

Hmmm I am kinda suprised that deleting your prefs files did not do the trick. CM is really a stable game I hope this does not turn you away from the game, because you'll have many hours of fun with the CM games.

My only other suggestions would be to either experiments with your video card settings (doubtful since CM is running on a hi resolution)or go into bios and adjust AGP settings.

One other thing, post this to the Technical Support Forum. There is a guy there named Schrullenhaft who always helps people with tech problems and is more knowledgeable about these things than I.

Hi

I fixed the problem last night smile.gifsmile.gif , as a last resort as nothing else seemed to work i went into the bios and lowered the AGP setting from 128 to 64 and it works great now , funny as ive always been told that a higher AGP setting or half your mem is better ( ive never tryied 256 althou i have 512 mem of mem )but in this case its not the case so im leaveing the setting at 64 .
