PantherG
Does anybody know why the phase these out? They're good!
flamingknives
Sucky HE round? Relatively poor behind armour performance?
Sardaukar
I like them very much...mostly because it's only Russian tank during late 42 that can take out Tiger. Pity it (T-34/57 M41) phases out 12/42..leaving russkies with trouble during 42. Cheers, M.S.

Pud
KV's are basically infantry tanks. Their gun isnt capable of penetrating 100+mm of armour. 76/41 gun at best gets through around 85mm. The KV2 doesnt get any AP round only HE.

In the early war, Germans are in deep trouble with KV's Apart from getting mobility kills, or knockouts by 88's, there's very little that can stop a KV before the Tiger comes along. It's interesting how the advantages shift during years when both sides react to other's new equipment bringing in their own. Tiger to counter T-34 and KV...T-34/85 to counter tiger..so on. PrivateTom
From what I read the 57mm gun was very expensive and hard to make, and I think the barrel wore out very fast, one of the grogs could probably tell you more.
Foxbat
Also the 57mm ATG was phased out because it was deemed superflous before the war, so when they ran out of barrels they simply had to give up on the tanks using them. When ther gun was again taken into production it was possible to make some new tanks but they were quickly made obsolete by the upcoming 85mm gun which had vastly better all-round performance. It should also be considered that this is a speciality vehicle that is wildly at odds with soviet doctrine at the time.
demoss
I think the KV-2 probably has a chance against a Tiger - as long as it's sitting in ambush. You don't necessarily need to penetrate with that big gun. Even then, better make the first shot count. Not that I'm even sure it's possible to get them both on the same battlefield.
