weird game variable game end

I recently played an operation in which 2 of the battles lasted until the end of the 26th and 27th turns. The time limit was set at 20 with variable end. I thought that the maximum was +25% or 10 turns, whichever was the lesser.

Any ideas? - Apart from do fewer hard drugs?

If I recall correctly, the variable ending goes both ways (BFC had mentioned something like this awhile back, I don't know if it had made it into the final game). Variable endings kick in when a flag is contested at the end of the game. When one side "controls" it during the extra turns, if the other side re-contests it, the game continues, and maybe that's why you went beyond the 10turns/25% rule.
