Xavier
Hi, in CM the Achilles TD is available only from January 45. But, I found this picture in a History book ("Les panzers dans la bataille de Normandie"-ed Heimdal) The legend says:"A destroyed tank destoyer (unidentified unit) in the Villers-Bocage sector is examined by an officer of a panzer regiment (probably Pz.Rgt.3, 2.Pz.Div.)... So, when did the Achilles start his carreer? Anyone? Thank you...

Xavier
I think the TD on the pic is an Achilles: look the counter-weight on the gun, the muzzle brake or the stuff behind the turret...

Eric Young
I know that 30 Corps had at least two companies of Achilles during Market Garden. Now, they were vary rare before 1945 so maybe that is why they put them in January 1945. Some thing I can agree with. I always take picture captions with a grain of salt. E P.S. The picture is an Achilles. [ May 18, 2002, 03:04 PM: Message edited by: Eric Young ]
Viceroy
Xavier, apparently the Achilles did see action in Normandy in July'44 in the fighting around Hill 112/Odon River. Saunders says they served with the 86th AT regiment RA and were part of XII corps.
