History Buff
My little question that is nagging me and I can't find the answer. When was Arnhem eventually liberated? I mean the 1st British airborne were pulled out after the partial failure of Market Garden and the new front was just to the south where the 82nd line stopped. Does anyone know when and who defeated who to take Arnhem eventually? Thanx in advance
Viceroy
History buff, I have a photo with a caption showing the 1st Lothian and Border Horse in their Shermans "relaxing after the eventual capture of Arnhem on 12 April '45." Actually, looking again at the same book, further on it says that the Canadian I Corps, "attacked Arnhem on the 12th (April) and took it on the 15th". IPA
Yep, Arnhem was liberated by 49th (West Riding) Division as part I Canadian Corps on the said dates, after launching a river crossing of the Ijssel to the East of Arnhem and some fierce fighting.
