Intelligent deployment zones?

One thing that's always bugged me about the operations is lack of intelligence used in determining the deployment zone, and this more from the point of view of the attacker.

If you make a run down one 'side' of the map, you should leave a large salient of enemy held territory down the other flank, but the AI just evens the zones out round about the futhest advance.

To me, this cheapens the victory, as you don't have to worry about overreaching yourself and getting cut off.

If the deployment zones in each battle could reflect the situation, so that you could encircle troops, and have them try to break out, it would be great. (And more possible on CMBB sized maps)

Has there been any work on this in CMBB?

(sorry if this thread has been run before, I just can't be bothered reading back through 100 odd pages of old threads)
