freeper
Always ran CM on my older system without a problem...looked great too. Now, after upgrading to a new system it doesn't look nearly as good. The terrain textures are "grainy" or pixilated a short distance beyond the squads. And there is that "blurry" text effect others have mentioned as well. I don't perceive the animation is nearly as smooth as it was on my older system. I'm running ALL the newest drivers and simply didn't know if there was an "adjustment" I could be making to improve the look and performance. Schrullenhaft
Do you have FSAA enabled ? Texture quality may also vary driver to driver since this is one of the elements that can be sacrificed for speed. Also, what is your 'mipmap detail level' ? Is this a completely new system or are only certain components upgraded, etc. ?
freeper
This is a completely new system. The mipmap is set to "Best Performance." Not sure what FSAA is referring to so can't comment.
Schrullenhaft
FSAA=Full Scene/Screen Anti Aliasing. Go to the Display control panel (in Classic view)> Settings tab > Advanced button > GeForce4 tab > Additional Properties button > 3D Antialiasing Settings tab > by default this will be set to 'Allow applications to control the antialiasing mode' which for most games and programs means 'off'. Click the 'Manually select the antialiasing mode' radio button and then select one of the lower radio buttons for whichever FSAA mode you want. 'Best Performance' mip-mapping will reduce some of the texture quality too (usually further out - towards the rear of the map from your viewpoint). Are you running the 28.32 drivers or a newer beta ?
freeper
Thanks for the advice... I adjusted the mipmap to a higher image quality and that helped a bit. But the scrolling is not nearly as smooth and nice as my old Viper card. Who would think - many $$ later and it isn't any better than a three year old card. Actually, the Viper 770 was better! I'm running the 28.32 driver. Looked like the newest there was.
Schrullenhaft
28.32 is the latest official driver. There are newer betas out there available on 3rd party sites, but they may or may not do anything for you. If FSAA is enabled, it is a major speed killer. It can definitely improve the look of games, but there is a significant speed cost to enable it. I don't know why a GeForce4 Ti4600 would be slower than a TNT2. The TNT2's don't offer FSAA and that would be the biggest difference that I could think of off hand. Otherwise in every other respect the GeForce 4 is going to be significantly faster than a TNT2.
