Problems running CMBB DEMO with TNT2

Hello, I downloaded the CMBB DEMO but havent been able to run it.

1. The screen message is "3D DirectX Test, Click accept to select this graphics mode, SOFTWARE MODE. RESOLUTION 640x480 at 85 HZ.

2. By pressing SKIP it can lower the #HZ (to 75 or so), but that wont help.

3. By pressing accept it goes on to partially display the BATTLEFRONT.COM logo (up until the C) and then "This game requires minimum 800x600"

4. However, the screen resolution is set at true color (32 bit) and 1024x768. I tried with smaller resolution and 16 bit color and the same problems appears.

5. The video driver I have is NVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64, Chip type NV5, integrated RAMDAC, 32 MB, , Version 2.05.1903

6. My machine is a Pentium III 750Mhz, 380MB, I have DirectX 8.1, and 16GB of free hard drive space.

I'd appreciate any clues into how to run the demo. Thanks in advance, pgs

It looks like you need to upgrade your video drivers. Which version of Windows are you running ? I'll assume that you're running Windows 98. Download the latest 30.82 driver from NVidia for Windows 98 / 98SE / ME. Uninstall your current driver (Control Panel > Add/Remove Software control panel > highlight NVidia drivers or TNT drivers, however it may be listed and click Add/Remove button).

Hopefully these drivers may fix your problem. While the Demo does allow the selection of 640x480, you get notified that CMBB can't run at that resolution. In your case it says 'Software Mode' which indicates that CM isn't discovering your video card's DirectX 3D hardware capability.

You can test that your card is working in DirectX by launching the DirectX Diagnostic. For Windows 98/ME it can be found at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DXDIAG. On the Display tab there are three buttons to the left that should be 'enabled' for your video card. The two buttons to the right test DirectDraw and Direct3D (which is the important one for CM).
