Quicker pbem?

Recommended Posts

I looked around a bit, but couldn't find anything about this...

Question is - is there any quicker way to pbem? The system now is very good in preventing cheat. But if you play someone you trust, can you speed it up, so you don't have to send file between every "move".

Like:

A: places and plots

B: places, plots, and watch video (on his first turn)

A: watch video, plots

B: plots, watch video

etc etc

As it is now I don't get to see any action until 3rd time I get mail-file.

This is something on our list for the future. It makes the coding a lot more complicated, which is why we didn't have time to implement and test it (yet).

There could also be a slower way of playing PBeM with someone you do not trust, or should I say someone you do not know, or for tornament/ladder gaming.

As it is now player A who made the setup is now the only one knowing exactly what the setup is, if the computer selects forces he can also open the file he sends to his opponent to see exactly what forces are available to his opponent. So perhaps there should be an additional setup step. Player A selects parameters and sends file to opponent, opponent opens file, sees setup parameters, OK them and selects/is assigned forces.

Parameters should be visible to both (all? :)) players.

By moving selection of Player Bs forces to after the sending of the file, Player A will not know the exact composition, he could still open the initial file, but that would only show him one possible selection.

You could try zipping the PBEM files before sending them. I've had the same problem sometimes, especially when transferring files over ICQ. It seems that sometimes a part of the file just gets left out and that's why CM won't recognize it as a proper PBEM file.
