PeterX
The dust raised by AFVs in the NA scenario looks cool! But there is no dust in 'Line of Defense', the Italian theatre scenario. Why not? I noticed the conditions are Warm and Dry.
Moon
No dust is raised by moving vehicles (not dry enough), but shell impacts should kick up dust. Also, you should notice different dust behaviour depending on terrain, i.e. dirt roads produce more dust than grass tiles. And so on and so forth. There is more to explore than meets the eye immediatly, as usual Martin
PeterX
But, Moon, there are two road types in the Italian scenario; dirt and paved. The vehicles raise dust on neither. OTOH, the dust effects in the NA battle are fantastic and really add to the immersion factor. I always felt there was never anough ambient smoke in CM. Sidebar: Why do the Alied portraits show full faced men whereas the German ones show only lower profiles-as in CMBB?
Madmatt
The dirt roads are considered to be hard packed enough not to raise obvious dust clouds in dry conditions. Thats not to say some dirt and such wouldn't get kicked up but since the dust clouds in CMAK can be spotted from any distance regardless of LOS we decided to not show then unless they really kicked up a big cloud. Of course that changes in VERY DRY conditions. Dry ground is considered the normal type of ground condition. The prfile pics will continue to be a mix of full face and shoulder. It depends on where the rank insignia is displayed and also the availability we had of good quality pictures for us to use. I see. That makes in-game sense.
Michael Emrys
The dust clouds kicked up by vehicles in the desert, unless it had recently rained, were HUGE and could be spotted from as much as 15-20 miles away under normal daytime conditions (barring noontime heat haze, and sometimes then too).
