Joe Perez
Playing the Defence of Trig 29 scenario from the new CM Africa Korps game. Playing as the Germans. I have an off-board 105 (150?) artillery spotter. On the first turn I plotted him to start laying down a barrage, which he did, with good effect. At the start of the very next turn I wanted to turn off the barrage to conserve ammo. However, rt-clicking the spotter only brings up commands for various movement. No "Cancel target" or even targeting commands so I can switch to another target. Does an off-board barrage have to fire a minimum amount of shells before it can be halted/retargeted? The sparse manual that comes with the game does in fact list the commands, including the "Cancel target" order, but I'm not even getting it in order to choose it. I don't remember this in CMBO or CMBB. Any help appreciated. Joe Perez
Mark Gallear
Oh dear you should have read the manual . If you preplot before turn 1 - it fires the guns full load out of ammo at that spot. You cannot adjust or stop the barrage. (You can also delay it to start on turn 1, 2, etc.)
Carl Puppchen
This feature was also present in CMBB - was not present in CMBO. One benefit of pre-plotting is that even if your observer is killed the shells will still fall. It is often a good idea to use pre-planned barrages on observers with very long time delays, such as the Russians or the Italians.
AC
Also you can order barrages on locations you can't see or don't have a TRP in and maintain good accuracy... You don't suffer any accuracy penalties if you order a fire mission on turn 1. But then you have to spend all your ammo...
Bone_Vulture
Also notice that you can set this pre-planned fire mission to start on a certain turn, not just the first one.
dangerousdave
Hey, don't feel bad, I didn't see that one in the manual either...
AC
Yeah, and I keep forgetting it all the time... Sometimes I spot a juicy target on turn 1 and then wonder why I can't cancel the fire mission.

Airborne
Yep, this burned me too the first time. I knew this was something different from CMBO (don't have BB). Missed it in the manual too.
